I might need to go onto antibiotics for a gum boil I've just found on my gum today.
Has anybody else had to take antibiotics during pregnancy?
I had to take them early on in my pregnancy when I had tonsilitis. My obstetrician's receptionist said not to worry though because the antibiotic I would be given - if any - will be safe for pregnant women.
Looking for some reassurance here I guess! Thank you so much in advance!
I have had antibiotics 3 times already this pregnancy.....
Not jumping for joy about it and had similar concerns to you but was assured by the doctors that it was safe for me and bubs (who was my main concern) and they said to me if I didnt take the antibiotics the situation would be worse for bubs.
Each time I went on the antibiotic called Keflex.
The first time I was about 13wks and I had a chest infection
The second time I was about 21wks and that was because I was bitten by a spider
The third time was at 25wks because I had an awful sinus infection.
Antibiotics were a last resort and the first and third times I only went to get them after I ahd been sick for 2 weeks and not gotten any better.
Make sure you take some inner health plus tablets to avoid thrush when you take the antibiotics.
I hope that helps you and that you get better soon
Yep I had ABs a couple of times during my preg. I was paranoid and double checked with the dr AND the pharmacy that they were considered safe in preg. My bubba came out big and pink and healthy so all good there. Make sure you finish the course so you can knock the infection on its head, as your immune system is lowered in pg. It will be fine and you will be feeling better soon.
i never had to have them during my pg but one of my friends did and the dr said they were enough to slowly kill what ever was making her sick so take the whole course and she wouldn't feel instantly better like u some times do with normal ones, apparantly for use in pg they give u a really low dose. BTW her bub was born fine (she had them at about 30 weeks I think)
Hope your gum isn't too sore
Yep, me too. I got really sick and ended up having to take them. Like you i didnt really want to but i was reassured that they were safe and i suppose it is important that you stay well, you could end up with a systemic type of infection if it spread, which cant be good for bubs. If you can, though, i would take a probiotic of some sort to keep all those good bacteria around, which the antibiotics may kill.
