Wink Anyone else with a serious thing for ice cubes?

    Hi all,

OK, I'm here to fess up. I have a serious ice addiction

The only thing I want is ice cubes. Crushed ice will do in a pinch, but it's just not the same- I'm craving the crunch of the ice between my teeth and the feeling of little bits of it my mouth.

It's bizzarre. I had the exact same craving from 34 wks on with ds. I chewed ice cubes the whole way through my labour. And I haven't munched on a single one between the end of labour and a few days ago, when the craving returned.

I'm not sure if ice is 'real' pica or not (I 'spose it depends on whether it's considered a food) but it's just not rational

Anyone else share my ice problem?

How are your iron levels Lori? I craved ice in both of my pregnancies & found out that it's generally because of an iron deficiency.

But yes I know the feeling, couldn't kep the ice cube trays full!!

Iron levels are perfect Sarah, have to keep them that way becauseof my heart condition thingie, so I get them checked fairly often.

I had a theory that maybe I'm a bit dehydrated, but I drink about 2 litres of water evryday (again because of the heart thingie) so maybe not

I've just got a craving for chewing things (like I'm teething!)
But no, I've become like you - last night we went out after I finished work and I had a glass of water and I just could not wait to get down to the ice and it felt SO GOOD to just chew on the ice!

Yep me too our fridge makes ice - cubed or crushed and boy did it get a work out, I would fill up a plastic cup and carry it everywhere. When I was about 8mths preg we went away to a car show and I was going nuts coz i could not get ice, then I found the snow cone van and single handedly kept him in business all day lol. No flavour just straight ice for me.
It drove dh nuts sometimes coz I would be munching away while he was trying to watch tv.

Lori I loved ice in pregnancy and still do.

You might like this. I found it sooooo yummy. I would make up some cordial in my favourite flavour at the time and then pour it into icecube trays and then have a glass full of flavoured ice! YUM!!!!!!

DP couldnt stand the thought of me eating ice as he has sensitive teeth but I love ice!

My freezer didn't freeze the ice quick enough!!

Last pregnancy was through the heat of summer, DH woul bring home a bag of ice from the drive thru every couple of days.

My favourite thing to do (this was when I didn't have any other children!) I would buy thosegold diet coke cans in bulk, fill a pint cup of ice and pour a WARM can over it. It would melt the ice into slushy form and I would sit there with a spoon in the aircon with a spoon!

The ice addiction got too such a state that I would make him buy a particular ice, I like this cude type stuff, sometimes he came home with more slate type ice that didn't fit in my mouth properly!

I havn't craved it as much this pregnancy but it has been a very cold winter! I am sure it will start up once I see an esky full at the summer bbqs!

I truely believe it used to relax me, it was amazing stuff!

i would take a bucket of ice in the car with me, even if i was just going to the corner shop when i was pg with dd, i couldn't stop, and i'd stress big time, nearly have a panic attack if i was somewhere and couldn't get ice.

I had some ice out of my fiances glass of coke the other day and i must say i enjoyed it thoroughly lol

Maybe i should invest in some more...lol
You gotta be careful where you get it from though, apparently maccas, hungry jacks etc are bad.

Atleast its a healthier choice of craving lol....nothing worse than craving chocolate
