Smile anyone not on weekly appointments at 38 wks?

Just wondering if anyone else isn't on weekly antenatal appointments at 38 weeks? Mine have been two weeks apart since 36 weeks and after my appointment yesterday, my next one is still two weeks away which is 2 days after my due date. I've only had 7 antenatal appointments in the whole 9 months.

Don't get me wrong - all the consultant obs and midwifes I've seen have been fantastic - and yesterday it seemed fine when they said "see you in two weeks unless the baby comes first". I'm not overly worried but everything I read seems to suggest that everyone goes to weekly appointments at some stage.

They did say that the clinic was very very busy to the point of struggling with even getting an appointment in 2 weeks time. I think the end of Sept must be a baby boom time?

I've had no probs with pregnancy except measuring a little small (35 fundal height at 38 weeks) and was 3/5 engaged yesterday. Not that I should complain about less frequent hospital appointments as I'm a 50 minute one-way trip to the hospital...but just curious as to whether it's possible that I am being too relaxed about everything. Can you be too complacent?

I only had fortnightly apppointments from 36 weeks. If they were worried abuot anything they would have you come in more often though.

Don't stress about what you are measuring as it is not very accurate measuring fundal height. It can depend on the way the baby is lying, fluid, who is doing it etc...

I don't think you are being too complacement or your caregivers. Different hopsitals and OBS have different ways of doing things. If you are ever worried about anything though they will be more than happy to see you and if your bubs seems to be growing and has a strong heartbeat at each visit everything should be going along nicely!

I had fortnigtly visits from 32 to 36 weeks then weekly from there with DS. I'm now 32 weeks and on 3 weekly visits, well I last saw my OB at 30 weeks and she said see you in 3 weeks so I'm not entirely sure how freqently I'll have them now. We moved to VIC in January this year so are seeing a different Dr. I think if all is well fortnightly is fine. A friend of mine just had her bub in a public hospital here in Melbourne and saw the midwife team only fortnightly in the last month too. Her birth was fantastic, no complications and a quickie - just 4 hours, way to go!

I was weekly from 36 weeks, I was seeing a private obs so I think they like you to have lots of appointments!

Mine are not exact and can be 1.5 weeks or 2 weeks depending on what suits me. Good thing about going with a MW based care centre. I don't want to go weekly really, hoping Jnr will make an appearance before that is needed. I think I am OK to stay at whatever we organise until I am overdue.

I had appontments at week 20, 24, 28, 31, 34, 36, 38. I was meant to go back at 39 weeks but she was born two days after my 38 week appointment.

    Hi Noobie and everyone

I'm on fortnightly visits until 40 weeks - then weekly until 'd-day'! My ob said that since I had no problems, then there really wasn't any need for her to see me every week. It's nice to be boringly low risk!
    cheers, Kerry

Since 28 weeks I have fortnightly visits from my next visit ( in 2 weeks time) I'll be going to weekly visits. But different Ob's do different things I guess.

Good lick with you last two weeks and with the birth.

    Hi Noobie,

I'm seeing a midwife at a hospital birthing centre and for first-time low-risk pregnancies they see you at 16, 20, 26, 30, 33, 36, 38, 40 and 41+. It seems weird that I'll only visit my midwife once more before the baby arrives, but I haven't had any problems so far so I'm not worried.

    Good luck!
