Hi there DS was diagnosed with an enlarged right kidney when i was only 16 weeks preg and they just kept an eye on it..really having a good look at the 20 week morphology but it just kept getting bigger, so i ended up having alot more scans to make sure they kept on top of it...there isnt alot they can do until the baby is born though.
He ended up having an ultrasound at 1 day old which didnt really tell them anything so they sent him for 2 or 3 other tests to check for reflux which is where they stick a tube into his kidneys through his penis and i cant remember what the others were for (it was in 2004) but it ended up being diagnosed as Hydronemphrosis...he neede to have a 3 hour surgery at 4 months to correct it...they had to remove a piece of his kidney, straighten out and reattach his ureta tube which goes from his bladder to his kidney.
He ended up having a complication during surgery which led to him have UTIs nearly every fortnight..it never really cleared up...although this is a straight forward surgery we were unfortunate to have the slight complication which led to further treatment.
He is nearly 3 now and he has absolutely no problems at all...of all things to have to happen im glad it was this particular thing.
I hope i havnt gone into too much detail and gotten you worried but it actually sounds alot worse than it really was.
Good luck hope it all goes well and it is just reflux or something similar that heals itself.
