    Baby Slings

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for baby slings, I am looking for the handmade ethnic style that has no buckles and is more of a pouch I guess.

I looked on ebay, but there are just so many how does one know whois is best.

    any ideas?

Hi there. I have a hug a bub which has no buckles and stuff but it 's not really a pouch but it is fantastic once you get the hang of it. A friend has a sling that is a pouch that looks great and is so easy to put on and her son seems to love it, i can find out what it's called if you like. Alternatively you could ask her - it's white wicka (?sp) on the forum. good luck with it all.

    Hi!!!
As Rachel said, i have a pouch type sling. It is called the "Nurture Sling" They have a website.
I actually checked out their site first and then bought it through ebay as the company sells them there. i wear it every week to and from mums group and my son falls asleep in it practically right away (he is 4 and a half months). the sling also has a wide strap from shoulder to back and it doesn't make your back hurt or shoulders hurt like i found my other sling did..actually most of the time I have this one on, i tend to forget DS is even in there!

there are so many out there it would be hard to choose. I have heard good things about hotslings if you are looking for a pouch, the other option might be a ring sling which is similar but has a little bit of adjustibility in it if you want to change between you and your partner. Make sure you get something that sits on your shoulder, not across your neck (which is where a lot of the buckle slings sit - not comfortable).

If you want more information about sling and the different types, google "mamatoto" and "the babywearer" to get good sites that are informative.

I actually made my own ring sling. If you can sew, even at a basic level (that's all I can do), look up "sleeping baby" for some really good instructions and how to make different slings

I have a good ol' Baby Bjorn and a Bubba Moe. The Bubba Moe is very similar to the Nurture Sling. I am looking into a Hug-a-Bub or an Ergo though, they are meant to be better for baby's back than the Baby Bjorn.

The Ergo interests me as it can be used like a backpack. My DD (and all her cousins) were quite big with long legs, and none of us were able to use anything that had them on our fronts for more than 4 months or so, as they got too long to be able to walk with their legs hanging down your front.

The Bubba Moe sling was great to be able ot put DD on my back, and she loved it.

I have an Ergo and would not use anything else they are fantastic. I can carry my 3 yo in it and it will do for the new one as well. At first you use the newborn insert and then they go in the front carry then later in the back carry. You can also do a hip carry. They are so comfy I was really suprised.

Have a look in our gentle parenting under baby wearing there are quite a few there too. I saw the Ergo at the baby expo & it felt great, I use a Hug-a-bub with my daughter. I used it with our first daughter & now with the second & love the feel.

Fiona Jill pointed me to the Mamatoto site and I am now in love with using a wrap. I was never able to work out my sling. I think it is because my bub was always really long. He was just so uncomfortable and it hurt my back. Now I wrap a big piece of material around my body and pop him in. It is so comfy for us both, despite his size. I wish I had looked into it earlier. If you look on the mamatoto website I use the front wrap style.
HTH. Personally I would try a sling from a friend or a shop before buying off the internet as you may need help fitting at the beginning.
