do boys generally weigh more than girls at birth?

my ob has predicted that my baby should be about 3.3kg at birth...and i'm absolutely dying to know what sex it is...it's killing me!!! so my friend just rang and i told her and she reckons it's definitely a girl now based on that weight. is she right????? or do you think it's a boy?? what were your babies sex/weight???

Even though mine where all born early i would have to say that your friend is wrong.

My DS was born at 36wks 6days and he weighed 5lb 14oz and my last DD was born at 37wks 2days and she weighed 6lb 11oz. Also she had stopped growing in the womb at 36wks so she hadn't gained weight in the final week.

Remember as well Gracie, that ob's guesses have been known to be weeellllll off the mark, saying a baby will be huge and it's tiny, and vice versa.

So...I think you might just have to wait! Sorry!

River was 9.4lb, for what it's worth though, just before 40 weeks.

    Hey Gracie hun,
You will find out soon enough! I have heard this too, that boys weigh more, but unless you have something else to compare it to (as in you already have a DS or DD) then you wont know if this one is heavier cos its a boy, or if it is just a heavier bub

    Good luck!

Ds was 4.02kgs born at 39w4d gest.

I have heard on average boys tnd to weigh more than girls.... but I dont think u can really base gender on a specific weight range.
    Good luck!!!!
Hope the little one decides its time to vacate very soon!

My DS was 6lb11 andhe was 2 weeks late, so I think boys weighing more at birth than girls might be an old wives tale!

My 1st DD was 7lb 5 at 41+1 weeks. My 2nd pregnancy was very high stress & all my measurements were smaller, eg fundal height & weight gain. Even though the doctor predicted she'd be smaller, she came out 8ib 9 at 41 weeks. I don't think anyone or anything can predict the size or weight of your bub.
