    Baby weight and clothes sizes

    Hello All,
It is hard to find out what sizes to buy for bubs. I think I have made the mistake of buying too many 00000s and someone told me these are for prem babies? Should I just buy an assortment of 5 zeros and 4 zeros? Or will I need 3 zeros as well? I don't want to buy too much, especially if I get the wrong sizes.

What sizes equate to what weight/length baby? Like your average baby, 50 cm, 7 - 8 pound, what size would fit them best?

Getting confused writing this, please help!

Zander was 8lb 14oz when he was born & was in 0000. I think it has a lot more to do with length over weight to be honest as other bubs at the same weight I know went straight into 000 and they were longer than he was.

I've read another thread similar to this and there are so many diff opinions. I've got mostly 0000's and 000's because the 5 o's are recommended for prems. However if you lie all the clothes up they all look different! Some of the 4 0's are actually bigger than the 3 0's. I think if you have a few basic in each then you should be fine and then you can always buy more or sell unused clothes on ebay!

Forgot to mention LOL! If you keep the tags on, most shops will allow you to exchange.

My daughter was 9 pound 4 and she was in 000 bonds suits but 0000 in everything else. Was only in 0000 for about 3 weeks and then straight into the 000 for a couple of months.

But i have since been told 000 were to big on her...(gee ud think id remember 9 months back but dont)....

This time i have gone and bought heaps of 0000 for bub... be my luck they wont fit..and ive taken all tags off....oh well... next bub maybe!! LOL

I have only ever used 000 as you really don't get the use out of anything smaller for too long to justify buying them really especially at this time of year and so what if the arms are a little long and the feet don't stay on properly - I used socks to keep them on.

Both my girls were nearly 9 pounders (8lb 10 & 8 lb 13 ). They wore 0000 for a few weeks, then straight into the 000. I would stay clear of 5 noughts . Ive bought a couple of 0000 for this little one.

I'm buying 0000 and 000. My sister had a baby not long ago 7p15o. She was in 0000 for four weeks then 000.

Eliza was 7lb7oz and she was on 0000 for at least a month, longer in some brands. Then into the 000 which lasted a while. She was only in 0 when she was 1, size 1 when she was 2 etc etc. She is 31/2 now and just starting in to 3's. It depends on their height so much. She is actually a Size 3 height and a size 1 waist - consequently no pants fit her

My daughter was 6lb 7oz (2.9kg) and 48cm when born. She wore 00000 when she was born, for about 6 weeks - two months i think then she was into 0000. She's now just into 000 in most things.

I think buying a few 0000s (for an av sized bub at birth) and 000s (for a few weeks after that) is the way to go to start with. My bub was 7lb7oz too, and 50cm, and I left her in 0000s for about the first 5 weeks, then into 000s fo about the next 6 weeks (That's in bonds jumpsuits, other brands are slightly different as others have mentioned. Bonds seem a bit smaller).

She is 14 weeks now and wears 00 bonds jumpsuits to bed at night but in jumpsuits by some other brands but she can still wear 000s.

As for daytime clothes such as trackies, long sleave tops, hoodies etc she still has about half 000s and 00s.

    All the best Dragonbub!

ps. You think shopping is fun now buying clothes for your little munchkin?! Wait until they are born! It takes A LOT of self control!

It's really hard to say as all sizes are so very different. All bonds stuff are very small sizes. Unless you expect a very small bubs I would prob stick with most 000 & some 0000. I say better it big a bit bigger than not worn again after just a few weeks. Our DS was 6pds 12ozs & very long, because of long legs he went straight into 000, at almost 5months now he's 90% above average for length & because of this already in 0 suits for the past month or two.

My son was straight into 000. I didn't bother buying any 0000's with him. My daughter was quite small though and she was in 0000's and 000's for quite a long time, as she had reflux and didn't gain weight as fast as she should've. I wouldn't buy too many suits too soon, anyway. When your bub is born you can buy clothes in the right size then. Different brands fit different too. For example, I found Target baby clothes are quite large for their size, Pumpkin Patch is too. While Bonds is pretty much the right size.

Remember once the baby is born and after you are feeling a little better, it is nice to have an excuse to go shopping for baby clothes. It's quite easy to take a little baby shopping if they like sleeping in the pram and you will probably really want to get out of the house and stretch your legs. You don't need loads and loads of stuff right away - just enough to tide you over for the first couple of weeks. If you're desperate in the first week or two, you can always send DH down to the supermarket for a couple of bonds bodysuits anyway.

When I was pg with my DD in my naivity I went and bought all 000. My family has a history of prematurity due to PE. My DD was born weighing 3lb 3oz. A 000000 swam all over her it wasn't until she was atleast two weeks old and out f the humidicrib that I was able to dress her. Due to her length though she was in these for a week and straight into 00000 for the next couple of months. We've had a brief spell in 0000 and are just getting into 000 now that she is almost 5 months old.

Izzy was spot on average when she was born - 3.5kgs and 50 cms long. She wore 0000s for a few weeks but only if they were "footless". She had three 0000 all in one outfits with feet - she wore one of them home from hospital and never got into the others because they were just too short.

unless your bub is 6lb or under you probably wont need any of the 00000. My son was 5lb and was in 00000 for maybe 6weeks then 0000 for a while.
If you have kept the tags on them its prob best to return them to get some 0000 or 000, then if bub is quiet small you may only need 1 or 2 00000 things. Honestly bub will grow out of them so quickly though!
