My scan (to check for placental function but the technician did a measurement anyway) said DD was 7lbs14. She was 7lbs14.5 BUT that means she only gained 0.5oz in the 6 days between the scan and her birth when I put on 1.5kg!!! It is seriously a load of crap. When they get it right it was luck, pure and simple - it's like guessing how many sweeties in the big jar, even if you got good enough to be right within a tolerance of 50 either side of the true number, you wouldn't stake your life on it, let alone someone else's!
Jules you don't HAVE to have a section, no matter what. So even if he says you have a 23lb baby in there, you don't have to consent to a section if you don't want one. It's your baby, your body, your birth - NOT your ob's, he is EMPLOYED by you (or on your behalf if you're Public).
for my last born I was told 4lb 11oz (from memory), starting having contractions the afternoon of that ultrasound and 40 odd hours later a 5lb 13oz baby was born.
A few weeks ago my neighbours were told their Bub was 3.2kg. A week later he was born and he was 3.3kg. I just went to the same technician and I got an estimate too.
I don't see why you would need a caesar if your baby is a little big. I was nine and a half pounds and my mum was smaller than me. I am 165cm and a size 8.
i was told at 36 weeks my first son was 3.6 kilos. he was born 4 weeks later after 37 hours of labour via an emergency c section weighing in at 3.935 kilos. so pretty colse for us.
but i also have a friend who was told to expect a 8.2 pound bub. bubby ended up being 6 pound 4.
They were totally off with me
First bub - they said 10.5 pounds !!! Real Deal - 8.9 pounds.
2nd - 6 pounder - came in at 9.9 pounder.
3rd - 11 pounder or more (???? how the hell is that gunna get out??) and she was 8.8...
Don't listen. As someone said, your body ain't gunna make a baby that's not coming out easy.
bub 1 i was told 7lbs he was 6lbs 15 oz so almost on the money but was told that my utrus was on the small side and i would never have a bub over 8lbs.
2nd bub told 8lbs she was 7lbs 8oz
3rd bub told 8lbs she was 7lbs 3oz but 3 weeks early
4th bub told about 7lbs she was 9lbs 2oz
5th bub told about 8lbs she was 9lbs 110z
6th bub told about 10lbs 2oz as he was breech they induced me at 41 weeks just so he didnt get any bigger as i wanted a vaginal birth and yep they were wrong again he was 8lbs 15oz.
not sure what happened to my utrus being to small but once again something else they got wrong.
I'm with Ash and wanna kick him/her, lol.
My sisters pelvis was too small to deliver her girls but both times they let her try naturally first.
A c-section is major abdominal surgery and you want to avoid it at all costs, i say go naturally and if a problem arises and u have no other choice then so be it but best to give your body a go at it first. I'm small and i had a 8pound12.5oz baby.
As for the weight estimate, my friend was told her baby was going to be huge (9pound or something) and she had a 6pound something baby. They are highly inaccurate.
Good luck and fingers crossed that you have a natural birth
