can't help you as it hasn't happened to me - but what have the docs suggested?? I"m sure they would have been speaking up if they were concerned

well, they did not really suggest anything...only that if i get too big and the baby is ready to come out prior to 40 weeks, then they will induce me. but otherwise, they said that its natural and some ppl just grow differently from others..

I had a friend who was very big early on, and she was really worried (we all were..) but she kind of stopped growing and remained the same for about the last 8 weeks. She even looked a bit smaller by the end, she must have just had her growth spurt at the beginning. But your Dr will let you know if he's concerned.

Hi Katmommy and welcome to BellyBelly.
I'm not too sure what advice to give, except that I have heard in a quite a few cases that the measuring they do of your bubs actually is not that accurate at times (eg. someone was told they were having a 9+lber, and he only ended up being 6lb!)
As for the weight gain, try to remember that every woman gains differently... How much is 47pounds? Is that about 20kg?
In my entire pg I put on almost 40kg... 8-[

Anyway, sorry I do not have any advice, but I just wanted to wish you all the best with the rest of your pg...

Nope, just a singleton for me! 8-[ Aidyn was only 8lb7oz as well...
However, I did start out my pregnancy about 10kg underweight, and did quit smoking when I fell pg. Plus before I was pg I didnt eat much at all, so I guess when I did start eating my body was clinging on to the food/fat for dear life!
I was somewhere around 55kg before I fell pg, and got up to 97kg by the end of my pg.

I couldn't agree more Shannon. IMO obs and midwives should be banned from using scales. As you say wieghing pregnant women is getting less and less common and a lot of healthcare providers consider it kind of old fashioned. My hospital has a set of scales but they only weigh people who ask and I have never once seen anybody use them. The only reason I know how much weight I gained (25 kg on top of 50kg - thats 50% of my bodywieght LOL) is because I was so bored in the antenatal ward that weighing myself seemed like an interesting way to pass a minute or two.
Just so long as you're eating well and you're healthy you're weight is really irrelevant and there isn't much to be gained from comparing yourself to others. There will always be people who gained less or more than yourself and your baby won't ever grow up and thank you for looking like a whippet with a watermelon shoved down your dress when you were pregnant .

My Obstetrician never even bothered weighing women during pregnancy, he said it was far too inaccurate as it could be fluid, weight - anything. And he is a well known fertility/ivf specialist Ob Gyn so he can't be making it up.

I put on almost 30kgs with each pregnancy, I think more like 25kgs but I am the smallest I have been that I can remember - i think I started out at 72kgs and now after two babies I am 65kgs and still going down.

I put on 18kg with my first and 16kg with my second.

It took about 12 months untill I had lost most of the weight. I've always been underweight so I wasn't fussed about putting weight on anyway.
I have a g/f who bragged about only putting on 4kg, but she smoked her entire PG.

I guess if you eat well, not too much junk, then your body will do what it needs to do to get you through growing a healthy baby.

I put on 17.5kg during my PG.

My OB never weighed me, nor did he ever ask what I weighed. I remember telling him when I'd gained 10kg and he told me that weight gain or weight loss is of little consequence during PG (as Kelly said, it can be related to any number of things) - the main thing is that the baby is continuing to grow normally.

i guess...i mean my first pg, i gained only 33 kilo, but im not sure about this one....and my sister that lives in australia, i just met her a few hours ago on aim and asked her about her pg and she said that she gained so much, more than all of u, 43 whopping kilos! thats a lot
well, i'll update more about the pg.
also, just for like future reference, di all u burn off all the weight, or not? and how?

My weight gain was largely fluid. My hands, feet, ankles (everywhere really!) were very puffy from fluid retention. Funnily enough, when I mentioned to my OB about my weight gain I remember him telling me that I would be surprised just how much of it was fluid - and he was right. Towards the end I was even puffier......

I had lost some 13kg within a couple of weeks of giving birth, and within a month I think I'd lost 15.5kg (so definitely all fluid and I looked a whole new person without a puffy face etc!). Pity a few months later I gained a few kilos back LOL. So right now, I'm sitting at 5kg above my pre-PG weight. I didn't do anything special to lose the weight at all - it came off in that time of its own accord. (I think the couple of kilos I gained back may have had something to do with a few choccies *rustles through chocolate wrappers* LOL)

I lost 12kg in the first 2 weeks of giving birth. Then over the past 1.5 years have lost another 18kg. I am still 10 kg over my pre-pg weight, however as I was underweight before I fell pg, I only have a couple of kg to get to my recommended weight for my height (around 63-65kg)

I gained 20kgs with Ariani, 19kgs with Shay and 35kgs with Zaki. This pg, I've only gained about 5kgs so far, and funnily enough it's the one pg where I don't get weighed in at every antenatal appt. My Dr also doesn't believe in monitoring weight gain.

In fact when I asked him about my seeming lack of weight gain this time round, he reckoned that I looked lovely and healthy to him, and baby was a good size, so why be worried about something like that? I eat well and was not a small girl to start with (90kgs) so it all looked good to him.

I don't think I'm doing much differently between this pg and my last three, except perhaps exercise more. I'm certainly not dieting or restricting what I eat, so I do think every individual and every pg is different.

My OB wont weigh me because "it puts unessessary pressure on pg women to conform to some media driving and unrealist image", even said if I wanted to be weighed to buy some bathroom scales. The midwives at his surgury will weigh you if you ask them.

I have been weighed though a few times by renal (kidney) specialist during his monitoring but that was so he could make any required adjustments to medication levels, anyway I have the reverse problem, I have not gained any weight but actually lost some (from 6w pg stage), all scans and measurements show a perfect healthy little one so there hasn't been much concern there but as my ob and renal specialist have both said "Its not like you can't afford to loose a bit, heaps of reserves".

Personally I wouldn't care if I put on 50kg through the pg... or more... as long as bigfoot is healthy and arrives I have no issues with weight.
