    Help! Alan??

My next hospital appointment isn't until Friday and I am wanting some opinions as to whether or not I should contact them beforehand .....

As you know/probably read my posts over the past week... I have been having period like pains every single day for the past week and at different stages during the day they seem to increase with intensity. I have had a lot of CM and what appears to be part of my MP yesterday and a bit more today.. so no blood or anything in it. I have had some mild lower back pain too which I have not had throughout my pregnancy and my ribs are killing me... I can't laugh, cough or sneeze without 'hurting' myself...

Is my body just preparing for what lies ahead or is this something I should contact the hospital about??

(Can you tell this is my 1st pregnancy )

    Hi Danielle
Don’t worry hun it all sounds normal to me.
The pain in your ribs is caused by your rib cage expanding. By about 36 weeks your rib cage will have expanded by about 30%. Another contributing factor is the increase production of a hormone called relaxin. This hormone, along with a little help from progesterone causes all your joints to loosen, To help with the pain you could try panadol or panadeine, but the only way to get rid of the pain is to give birth. ( I only just posted this in another thread).

The increase in CM is very common late in pregnancy, and this along with your backache tells me that labour is probably not too far away. When you feel the period type pains if you put your hand on tour tummy you may feel it tightening. This is Braxton Hicks contractions, a way that your bdy prepares for birth

Thanks Alan... I just read that post about the ribs after I had posted mine!

I know there is no guarantees that I will go early but from what I have described to you it sounds like there is a chance I will??

You can never predict what your bub will do. I know when i was around 37 weeks with DD my hospital said 'any day now'......i got to 39w 4d and finally she came...over 2 weeks later from my any day now comment! The longer bub stays the better!!

I am hoping my little one doesn't come early.... as Kimbaz said "the longer bubs stays the better!".

My hospital bag wasn't packed until a few days ago... was about time I did it anyway. With all my sypmtoms over the past week it sent me into what I guess you would call 'nesting mode' and I have done a BIG clean out of the house... now I don't have much to do so I can sit back and relax until my little one decides to make his/her entrance into the world... I'll probably be bored in a few days though So if anyone has any ideas on making weeks go by quicker or any ideas on how to pass the time! I'm all ears!

Danielle, to make the weeks fly past - try to do something you really enjoy every day - meeting a friend for lunch, seeing a movie, getting some retail therapy in, reading a really good book, sunning yourself in the winter sun, and before you know it you'll have a baby...!

PS I went to 42.5 weeks having had runs of prelabour contractions from 36.6 weeks...! Trust me, just enjoy yourself, bubs will arrive soon enough!
