    Birth Plan

    Hi guys,

I have just typed up my birth plan to take to the Ob's with me. Can you have a look and let me know if I've forgotten anything, if it looks ok etc.

    Thanks so much

    Birth Plan for Tara Sippel

Birth Companion: My birth companion for the duration of my labour will be my husband Jeremy Sippel. If he feels he needs more support then he will call my mother Rhondda Cook to come to the hospital.

Positions for labour and birth: I would like to remain mobile and upright. I will make use of the bath and will bring a large gym ball from home. I would prefer to give birth sitting upright on the end of the bed.

Pain relief: I would like to manage my pain as best as possible with heat packs, baths, massage and gas when I need it. I am also open to any suggestions the mid-wives may have to help me deal with the pain and get through without stronger drugs. I do not want to use Pethidine and would prefer not to have an epidural unless one is required to safely deliver the baby (in the event of a C-section being required).

Monitoring of baby?s heartbeat: I would prefer not to be confined to the bed if possible. If the baby?s heartbeat can be monitored while I remain mobile this is preferable. However, if it is necessary for me to be attached to the foetal monitor then I would prefer it to be for a limited amount of time.

Assisted delivery: If an assisted delivery is necessary then I would prefer for vacuum to be used rather than forceps.

Third stage labour: I would like drugs to be administered for the delivery of the placenta.

Additional information: Jeremy and I will also bring an IPod and docking station with us for music.
I would also like my baby to be given the Vitamin K injection at birth.

    Looks good to me Tara.

Hope it all works out how you want it to. At least you're open to different things if necessary.

Sounds good Tara, and yep like Evie said I think it's good it isn't rigid...as in "this must happen, it's not going to happen any other way...". You are open to having a slight change of plan if needed/being flexible depending on the situation.

It's short, sweet and to the point, not rambling on with a ton of information no one will remember either! Good on you for writing one up too! I have no idea...at the moment the plan is "just get it out!!". Lol.

What about for after bub is born? Like skin to skin, cutting the cord, breastfeeding etc. Also I have some women say in their birth plan what they would like for the postanatal period ir ealy discharge, baby to remain with them, etc. Also not that you will need a C/S but I have also seen women write in the situation they may need a C/S what they would like for example who is to visit, touch/hold baby before you return from theatre, etc. Just some suggestions not that you want to write a book either.

My hospital has a mobile monitor so you can still have the straps on but move around...maybe you can ask if they have one at your next checkup?

I agree with Emmy. You have covered the labour part - now add the baby! Thats why you are going there, afterall!
