    blood test drama!

My stupid pregnant baby brain forgot that i was supposed to have a BT done last week - and i can't even remember what it was for! But i was supposed to have it done so OB would have results at todays appointment. Oh well, i had it done this morning so will have results for next appt in a fortnight, but...

I had to drink this really sugary drink and then wait in the waiting rooms for an hour (they wouldn't let me leave) - which turned out to be a good thing because after half an hour i got really hot and sweaty and shaky, and i just about fainted!! That was BEFORE they took the blood I laid down for the following half an hour and i was ok after they took the blood. Still a little unsteady, but not too bad. I feel so silly!!

Anyone got any ideas what that was all about? Is that any indication of what the results might show??

Awww hugs hun - the test is for Gestational Diabetes and pretty much all pg women get tested for it. I too felt disgusting after the drink- I think that is a normal response considering you have to fast for it and then drink such a huge amount of sugar. Hope you are feeling better and fingers crossed for your results.

it depends if you do the 50mg or 75 mg test...i think. for the 50mg one i had to eat breaky then nothing for 2 hrs then the test. My frined did the 75 as she was more high risk and she had to fast for 12 hrs!! definately for GD though.

Glucose test... hmm what can i say............... i had the big one done because my Grandma was diabetic,I had to fast from Midnight till i had the test done the following day (they ask you to come in at 8:00 so you don't go without food for longer than needed) but i sill had to wait an extra hour befor my initial blood test then have my drink & wait 2 hours then have my final bloods taken before iw as allowed to leave.

I had a very similar reaction to you and ended up at the hospital that night because of how my body reacted. they put it down to the dramatic changes in my body from the fasting to having the "lemonade".... though my symptoms were classified as "not normal" i got all hot and sweaty really dizzy felt like i was going to faint i blanked about 15 minutes of my life and came round not knowing what i was doing or where i was then realised i must have been walking round like a zombie because i wasn't were i was suppose to be and the baby's movments were basically non existant. Everything was fine with me though no odd results ( they said they would call if they found anything in my blood results- still ahven't heard anything )

it was just my body making sure i knew it didn't like it and not to do it again.

Baby is fine moving happily and growing bigger kicking me like it's getting in pratice for a big kickboxing event, i haven't had any funny turnes since so don't stress apparently your body can not like the fasting or the drink aslong as you did'nt thow it back up and have to go have the test done all over again your fine
