boob changes - any ideas what this is, anyone else had it?
Hi all, ive had the normal darkening of my aereola and nipples this pregnancy,, but since DD weaned when i was around 20weeks pregnant, my nipples have developed hard scaly lumps, that are nearly black. i started putting lansinoh on them as they were quite hard and dry, and they started peeling off, just little by little, till the last week one side has started coming off in larger amounts, and i now have little chunks (which are sore) out of one nipple and the other has these big hard scales which stick out and a big crack in it.
Does anyone know what this is? Has anyone else had this?
Will this affect bfing my new little one at all?
Im a little worried it may cause pain while feeding (given that one side is sore where the scaly bits have come off) i had a hard start bfing DD and i was hoping experience would help make this time a little easier, now im worried this will just cause issues/pain.
Any abnormal changes in your nipples need to be checked out by a doctor as soon as possible.
The lumps on your nipples are glands, and they actually provide lubrication, if they are hard, dry and peeling, I would get them seen to though, as soon as.
thanks ladies, i was hoping someone would be able to shed some light on the situation by having had this happen to them during pregnancy.
Guess its off to the gp for me

I had an ob appt and mentioned it so she had a look, it was just colostrum that had leaked and gone hard, she said she's not sure why it went so dark, but that its not unheard of, some women are either like that, or its from bra/cloth breast pad dye. She said just to continue to put the lansinoh on, and it has all gone now, as well as the pain and theyve repaired using the lansinoh too, where it was peeling off it was taking skin with it was why the crack and the little bits out of my nipples. i was very relieved to hear that, and even more relieved that they repaired so quickly. thanks for thinking of me hun.
