    Braxton Hicks...

I have been getting braxton hicks for a while now, probably around 20 weeks.

The last two days they have been a lot more regular and some even come with a period pain feeling. Last night they were waking me up a bit too. Is this normal?

Also, do the BH get more regular and intense as you get closer to your due date?

I am interested in the response you get - I've had the same feeling this past 8 days or so. I didn't have Braxton hicks in my first pregnancy.

I didn't have that, but that's not to say it isn't normal. Perhaps ring your hospital (if you haven't already) and ask if you are unsure?

i had bh with DD from 20 weeks they came and went, freq and not.
I remember 2 weeks before she was born we were driving for 150km ( went to see a movie lol) and the whole way they were. 7 mins apart on the dot as we were timing in the car for the 2 hrs. Dh said he could bounce off how hard my tummy was.

The went a away for a few days.
So in my case not an indication I was ready but definatley happened.

    DS I hardly got 1

I didn't particularly have BH with DD1 but with DD2 from 35 odd weeks on I had many, many occasions where for I had contractions for a good couple of hours that grew in intensity and regularity. Lots of times I was thinking oh yay this is it, only to have it all fizzle out. DD2 was born at 41+2.

I'm getting increasingly strong BH now and have been for a week or so. A couple of nights ago I was awake for almost two hours thinking maybe maybe, but then nothing.

Its very frustrating, but if I take heart in that its all good preparation work my body is doing for my little girl's birth - hopefully sooner rather than later ;-)

I had fairly strong BH from 28 weeks or so and yep, they got stronger as the weeks went on. Woke me up a few times from 37 weeks but DD ended up being a week overdue.

I could definitely tell the difference between BH and the real thing though.

If you're concerned, I agree with giving your hospital a quick call and chat to a midwife.

Thanks for your responses, very reassuring.

Spoke to a midwife and she said its normal enough, though not every one has them so regular. As long as they aren't too painful or my waters break it should be fine!

    They are just so uncomfortable!
