My asthma has been heaps worse while pg, and spring certainly doesn't help - that's when it's at its worst anyway. I haven't had an attack, but the ventolin is out a lot more often than normal. Could be something like that?
yeah i'm feeling it too, never had asthma but just feeling like my lungs are so squashed up i cant get enough air in them! Oh to be able to take a deep breath....
I find going for a short walk helps tho, seems to get her to move down just enough for me to breathe a bit better
I get this too, really bad sometimes, im only 24 weeks so its not a matter of not having space to breath. I get so short of breath somethimes, it makes me dizzy and i have to lay down. My GP explained it to me.....my blood presure is quite low, and there for not enough oxygen is getting around my body. not much i can do about it though. just take it easy! hugs to you
Yeah it's not nice......it should get a bit easier when bubs drops a bit and stops squishing the diaphragm so much.......just try and rest as much as possible...I found lying on my side and downwards sort of helped if that makes sense....so bubs is hanging forwards away from the body a bit helps to take the pressure off the diaphragm.....I reckon one of those donut pillows would work fantastically for that.....
Strangely enough, I was just having this conversation with a close friend last night as she is having breathing issues (she's 28 weeks) and hers is due to low iron levels. She just got her results this week and the OB said that would be a major reason for it. But I do remember feeling the same way as you in the third tri and my OB said it was all very normal simply due to less room in there.
Great, thanks peeps. Walking is difficult due to the pelvic instability unfortunately. I've spent most of the day either lying on my left side or on a chair I'm over the lack of mobility!
My BP's been OK so far, iron levels have been low and I'm on spatone twice daily, get the results on Tuesday for the blood test I had on friday.
Thanks for the quick replies.
Mel - Don't have a donut pillow, but I might get the fitball out and lean on it.
Kaz, I had been having awful trouble breathing too. I went to my osteo/chiro and, in his words, he "removed my stomach from my lungs" It's only been two days since, but it's been SO much better.
Yep... I've had it. I've found the best way to deal with it is to make myself relax even though it can be really, really hard to do so. I've been practicing deep breathing on purpose and it does help, though I still struggle a bit sometimes.
I'm 33 weeks and have been having troubles breathing, but also my heart starts RACING. Doesnt matter how easy I take it!
Midwife said baby is just squishing everything.
Ah, I cant wait til it drops a bit.
I have had shortness of breath often too, and unfortunately I have a MAJOR problem with pelvic Instability...
The shortness/hard to breathe can be due to a number of things during pregnancy, i.e: low blood-pressure, low iron levels, a high positioned baby, pressure on lungs, also your body is carrying an extra Ltr of blood around the body during pregnancy which has the heart working over time!
This can make you feel a bit puffed and breathless...
When laying down try laying on either side instead of flat on your back? As the baby's pressure can squash a main blood vessel and cause dizziness and slow the oxygen flow to your brain and baby... Drink lots of water, eat smaller meals, and try not to eat before laying down, and just rest regularly. I still get it bad at times, but these tips from my midwife have helped! Good Luck to everyone
Oh my! this brings back memories! I have never had asthma but I had that breathlessness feeling all through all my pregnancies! it was horrible. Reading this thread makes me think it was due to low blood pressure and possibly low iron. I felt better after a walk but this won't help you? Maybe a swim?
