Bub in transverse presentation at 30 wks

    Hi,

I just had my 30 week OB appointment and as I've suspected for the last 3 or so weeks my bub is lying across my pelvis horizontally (called transverse presentation). Apparently it's serious if you would like a natural vaginal birth (as bub can't come out this way), but in my case I'm having a cs due to medical reasons so I'm not super stressed about it. My OB said the bub will probably turn later on but I'm worried he's comfy the way he is and stay this way. OB said that if he doesn't move, it's a little more tricky to get him out in that possie.

Has anyone had a bub in that position and did he/she eventually turn to lie in the normal vertical possie?

    TIA.

Beata - DD was in transverse until 36w and then flipped to breech before moving to head down at 38w. It is only an issue if you go into labour and the baby's body isn't blocking the pelvic outlet. It increases the risk of cord prolapse. And yes - it is hard to come out that way vaginally I was days away from being admitted when she turned.

    Hi,
I didn't even know my son was breech til about 37 weeks. At all my checkups i was told he was head down (by the midwives), then at my 37th week check the OB said that he was breech, had an u/s and he was transverse lie and was admitted into hospital that night and i had a c/s the next day in which he was still transverse lie.

Your baby could still turn, but keep informed about bubs' presentation at each check up and go to hossie ASAP if contractions start.

    GL. Don't be afraid.

There's still plenty of time for Bubs to get themselves organised into the right position - there's a Spinning Babies website that has some good info too, might help put your mind at ease a bit.

My bub is also tranverse atm, and has been for the last 4 weeks or so, my Ob said bub looks comfortable transverse but assured me not to worry and that there's enough time to turn and most likely will. I've started doing some of the positioning exercises but I'm trying not to let it worry me just yet! I will be relieved though when I'm told bub is head down, but then I also know that could change just as quickly too!

    Good luck

Thank you ladies for your re assurance! I'm not as worried now as it looks like there is plenty of time for bub to turn. I've been talking to him today, gently persuading him to turn, ha ha. I know he's comfy right now and I'm sure he'll change the possie closer to my 38 week cs date.

    Thanks again

    Hi beata

My bub lays across my belly all the time , but she moves around as well. at my last appointment she was head down in the right birth possy but i know she moves around at diff times

it is a worry if they are in that position later on but not untill later .. MW and Dr's start to care about position after 36 weeks so u have time..babies can move into different positions for weeks while they have room

Thanks Shell! I think I'm going to stop stressing for now, I'm probably stressing for nothing, and I honestly didn't know how common this possie is!

    Hi Beata,
My son was also transverse, i went into labour at 34 weeks, they were going to rush me off for emergency c-sec, but tried stopping labour first.
Luckily, i was only in labour for Bubs to turn, it stopped and i went on the have a NVD at 40+2.
Good luck hun i hope bubs turns for you soon

    Hi
I was wondering the same thing just the other day... bub has been lying transverse for a number of weeks - but its getting to a point where its grown so big that it's affecting my pelvis badly (i already have an unstable pelvis and in pain so this just added to it)... so the last couple days i've been asking bub nicely to move and it seems yesterday and definately today it has moved and its feet are now up towards my ribs for the first time the whole pregnancy so hopefully it will stay that way now. all the best with your bub
