Red face Bulging Vagina!!! - MAJOR TMI!!!

    Hi there,

I will apologise in advance for the TMI!! I have called the hospital about this but they were not help at all. So to BB i have turned.

I have woken up thismorning to go to the toilet and found a peice of skin about 2cm long hanging out of my vagina. My vagina is also bulging big time!! The skin seems to only hang out fully when i am on the toilet or sitting down. And only a little when I am laying down. When i am up and walking around i can still feell the bulging feeling.

As i said i have called the Birth Suite and the midwife i spoke to had no idea what it could be. She said that because its not causing me any pain not to worry about it. And that if i am that concerned to go and have my GP look at it - No thanks! My GP and i don't do those kinda visits!

Lastnight i was having strong contractions lasting a couple of minutes. On the last one i had i felt like i needed to push so i did. I was on the toilet while this happened and thought that maybe i needed to move my bowels as i have'nt for a few days. Nothing happened though. I am wondering wether i did any damage by pushing like i did.

So i am wondering if anyone else has experienced this???? Should i be worried??

Your advice and comments are appreciated. Esp you Alan!!

    Cheers.

    Sara,
I have no idea what it could be... perhaps it might be best to go to the hospital and have it checked out... it might be one of those type of things that are best seen rather than described IYKWIM.
    Best of luck

if in your sleep or not, you scratched yourself down there it will swell up big time or at least that has happend to my wife and it is my understanding its not that uncomon. but due to your situation (PG) and the contraction issues, I would agree with Lisa I think. Can not hurt and hopefully give you at the very least some peace of mind.

I was thinking more than likely just your lips hun. With all of the extra blood we have happening down there, especially in third tri it is completely normal for things to swell up.

Of course, if it is truely worrying you, then go for a trip to either your gp or the labour ward, or grab a mirror and have a look

Don't need to answer this online but just to put it out there, Like trish suggested is it just the lips? Ar eyou normally a innie or a outie? I your a innie then I would think its just the lips but if your normally a outie then you would be able to tell what it was & would know its normal.

My other thought would be a prolaps. My sister had this happen but it was after the birth not before... But she descrbed it the same. I would be going up to the hospital & asking to be checked out, you don't need that kind of worry at the moment.

your labia my love- heheheh what a lovely way of putting it....
swelling is very normal.. its a good sign... But if you are worried then perhaps a quik check urself... easier said than done.
Its all so exciting when you are getting close but u dont need something playing on your mind... especially with a few weeks to go yet.

I'd go and get it checked out... bizarre the midwives dismissed it so easily!!???
I guess it could be totally normal, I havent been thru the later stages yet but perhaps it could also be a varicose vein or a prolapse or something.. or maybe you arejust swollen with all the extra fluid, but i think a quick check by your care provider would at least put your mind at ease... you poor thing!! gosh being preg just starts all sorts of things hey!!!

Thanks for all your responses. I really appreciate them.

I have just phoned the hospital back and was going to head into the Antenatal Clinic to have a Dr check me out but the midwife i spoke to said to go up too the Birth Suite. She was a lot more help than the one this morning.

She said that it could be a number of things. She said it could be that my pelvic floor muscles have given out a bit and my uterus has dropped through a bit or that i could be my bag of waters. Which is exactly what i was thinking but did'nt want to say.

As much as i am NOT looking forward to a Dr poking around in there i feel better that i am getting it checked out. Fingers crossed that its nothing too serious.

I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks again for all your responses.

Sara - do you know yet what the problem is? My first thought was also prolapse -a friend of mine had one quite badly with her second child - but it can be fixed after the birth with surgery if necessary. I hope it's nothing seious, hun. Can harly believe the midwives were so unhelpful the first time you rang!

Sara, hope everything is ok hun!
My friend who recently had a baby asked me if i had a swollen Vjayjay during pregnancy as her SIL's both did and asked her if she had. Hope its just something simple and common like that.

    Hi everyone,

Well, as i said i went into the hosptial to be seen. After waiting what seemed like an eternity i saw a Dr who had a looky down there. According to her, i have a swollen hymenal(sp??) ring!!! This aparently is due to the pregnancy hormones. Kinda odd to have decided to fire up this late in my pregnancy though! So no prolapse or bulging bad of waters!! Thank god.

Hopefully it all settles down soon though. I don't think i can handle spending the rest of my pregnancy feeling like something is going to come falling out of there!

Once again thanks heaps for all your responses and kind words.
