    Calcification of placenta

We went for our 36/37 week scan yesterday and Dr was very pleased with development of Baby, however, he did mention that there was some calcification of the placenta. I know this means that there is maturation of the placenta, but what does that mean for Baby and I? Does it mean that Baby could come earlier than the expected due date?

    Hi Kimi
Calcification is not all that unusual. It is an indication that the palcenta is comming to the end of its useful life. It is difficult o say that you will not go to term, this would depend on how much calcification there is on your placenta.
