Just wanting to find out information on cord clamping - with people saying let it finish pulsating before cutting etc.
Is there a benefit to waiting to cut the cord.? I have never had anyone mention this to me before - but it seems to be brought up alot around this forum.
I chose for delayed cord clamping for a few reasons, but the biggest one was we couldn't afford to store the cord blood and I wanted Jovie to have all that blood available to her. I couldn't find any reason NOT to have it done either.
We are choosing (OK, I am choosing ) to delay the clamping this time as the way I see it, there are too many benefits not to do it. Out here where I am there are no cord blood storage facilities so it is just wasted and I can't see the point in throwing it away when the baby can benefit from it.
One thing to consider though is that oxytocics (an injection in your thigh) are routinely given as soon as the baby's shoulders are born to deliver the placenta right after the baby is born, if you choose to delay the cord clamping, this also has to be delayed too.
