Decreased growth & possible induction tomorrow morning....

Hi girls,

I am currently lying in a hospital bed after a very stressful day... I am almost 39 weeks but bubs is only measuring 34 and has only grown one ounce in four weeks. He is also lying funny with his head down but slightly off to the side and his body sideways!it is very hard to get an answer as to what they are planning on doing but at this stage the midwife has told me that if they do not have too many people on the ward they will induce me with either gel or the drip as my cervix is closed and not favourable for labour. There is obviously a high chance that this will end up in a c-section as bubs is not in the best position for birth. If the ward is too busy then they will just leave me... I feel so stressed and am finding it so hard to work through it all in my head as they are not 100% sure on what they will be doing and I am just stuck in here. They are keeping me in here as they are worried about decreased movement and about me going into labour and him becoming distressed, all of which I am quite confused about! I was just wondering if anyone has been through a similar thing? How you coped? And if you ended up being able to have a vaginal delivery? Thanks in advance!

I don't have any experience for what you have mentioned but wanted to send you a and support.

What are they basing the measurements from? Ultrasound or feel? I know my ob said he couldn't measure dd towards the end because she was so far engaged the measurements were off, she was 3.700 baby too!

Have the movements concerned you in comparison to your previous pregnancies?

I have been having regular ultrasounds to check his growth and also from my tummy measurements... He is not engaged so they can still feel him.. My weight has also dropped off too so plenty of things to go off

He has been a very active baby the entire way through my pregnancy but has been very quiet in the last day or two.. I thought it was a sign he was going to make his appearance soon but they think his growth has a lot to do with it.

Just wanted to send you some support and best wishes. Babies can get themselves into position at the very last moment for birthing, so don't let that worry you yet. It sounds like you're doing all you can. Try and rest tonight. Things always seem worse when the night has closed in. Thinking of you.

Just wanted to send you hugs and good vibes for tomorrow.

Do try to get some sleep if you can - do you have ear plugs or a sleep mask? If your thoughts are racing too much and you can't talk them through with someone who knows what's going on, write down all your questions and worries so you can ask someone in the morning.

It's definitely harder at night when your support has gone home and you feel all alone in a busy, scary place....remember you are there so you and your bub can be looked after. And if they were truly concerned about there being an emergency, they wouldn't be adopting the 'wait and see' approach. Look for the positives. More hugs and good wishes x

Have you got someone that you can talk to at the hospital tonight?? A nurse on duty that can reassure you. Be sure to tell them you don't understand what is going on and that you don't feel safe, even if they have to explain it over and over again. Its important for you to feel safe and know what is going on, so you can relax and be present to what it needed..

Hi girls....

Still in one piece.. The midwife has just come around and has said they are really busy on the ward so it isn't looking good for an induction this morning. I keep telling them all that the baby is really quiet but they continue to brush me off and tell me he isn't in any immediate danger and they will look at inducing me when the ward is quiet. Still waiting for the doctors but I'm guessing I will be sitting here again tonight, missing my DP and my kids and getting another crappy nights sleep so I am completely exhausted when they finally have the time to induce me. Sharing a room with a young mum and a brand new baby is also not helping my exhaustion and my deep desire to have my baby in my arms. Thanks so much for giving me an outlet to vent. I feel like I'm not being heard and am deeply regretting my decision to not go with a private obstetrician due to my past pregnancies being textbook and me not feeling the need to outlay a tonne of money. I will keep you all updated during the day!

Make noise! If you went into spontaneous labor they'd have to manage so they will be fine if you are inducted. Follow your instincts. It's you who makes the decisions about what happens and it's crazy for them to wait until its convenient to look after you.

Um. So whether or not you need to be induced will be determined by how busy the ward is? That's logical.
I assume they're monitoring baby and so are happy s/he is ok? If baby is in a funny position, that's going to throw the measurements out, too.
Does the hospital have some steps you can get up and down to try and shift baby into a better position? Induction + baby at a funny angle is unlikely to be fun.
