    Dental work in third trimester?

Does anyone know how safe getting a local anasthetic is and getting fillings are in the last trimester? Anyone had minor dental work with or without affecting self or baby? I am unsure whether to get non-urgent filllings now or wait till after birth (8 weeks away).
    Many thanks!

Perfectly safe to have dental work and to have local anaesthetics. You can't have xrays though, but all other work is safe. I used to be a dental nurse and it was quite common for pg women to come in for treatment as some women get really bad teeth in pg. I myself have also had dental work done in the 2nd tri.

I had dental work done in the 2nd trimester, just a filling. I talked to the dentist beforehand she said it safe to have the local anasthetic and get fillings.

Wisdom teeth is usally under a heavier anaesthetic I think? (I am not sure..I had mine removed under a general!)

I had dental work done in my thrid tri.....local anaesthetics.......the only downside was lying on my back in that chair.......made me feel a bit breathless.......

You can have dental work at any time during your pregnancy. Just remember to tell them that you are pregnant. Although is should be pretty obvious in 3rd tri

I had a tooth out when I was 7.5 months pregnant with my last child. I was worried about the numbing stuff but they said as it is local it is fine. the only thing I didn't like was laying on my back and down a bit

I think with wisdom teeth there is always a risk of infection... and you don't want that getting into your blood.
I had minor work with a local done when I was in 3rd tri last time, and it was all good!

Hi Deirdre, I had the same question a couple of weeks ago! Join the club! I went to the dentist last week and needed two fillings side by side as I was in a bit of pain. I will be going again next week for another one as it can't wait. My dentist was great and said that it's perfectly fine during pregnancy - just tell them that you're pregnant though that's all. A local anesthetic is fine though, I just think x-rays and general anesthetic are not too good during pregnancy.

I hope your visit to the dentist goes well xxoo
