I read it on my card the first time. If they don't tell me I ask them.

i think the only way the can truly tell if bubs is engaged is via an internal.. can someone confirm this??? Alan??

I think they would be able to get a pretty good idea of whether bubs is decending into your pelvis without an internal? I asked yesterday, hadnt been offered, so just ask each time you visit and they should have no trouble telling you.

pregpan, ask anytime if you are curious like me, otherwise later down the track as the the baby will continue to change positions, even right up to labour in some cases, and you will be told, like I was too, that it's too early to be concerned.

I only asked as my baby turned from the breech position at 28wks, and I am becoming aware of movements in my pelvis now, not just my belly. (and because of the curiousity of course!). I get the feeling sometimes that he wriggles his way in the right direction, then changes his mind and wriggles back! It reminds me of the wombat on the RSPCA ads!

My baby was posterior yesterday, his head was pointing towards my left hip and he was moving throughout the examination, as usual. Cheeky little man of mine. I'm having an ultrasound tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see for myself what possie he's in then.

My OB always tells me what position bub is in. But if they don't say anything I would definitely ask.

Do you have a card that you take with you each week that they fill out? The midwives didn't tell me, but they always wrote it on the card. (Once I asked SIL what it all meant, it was great, LOL)
They always checked Natalie's engagement by feeling for her head just above my pelvis - they press quite hard...

i have never asked, and never been told.
I have been told by some peoples that sometimes the baby can be more engaged, and then the next week, be less engaged, so i take it that my obs figures its not a completly necessary thing.
he does U/s every visit, and fundal measurement etc. And from that, he tells me that the baby is positioned perfectly, says i couldnt ask for anything better. And, i am happy with that.
