Does anyone else have carpal tunnel?

In the last 2 weeks I have developed carpal tunnel. For me its loosing feeling in my hands, fingers, wrists in no particular order. I wake up during the night & cannot feel my hand, some fingers or a mixure of those three. Does anyone else have this? Is there something that you've been told will relieve the symptoms? My tcm told me its just part of pregnancy that some women get, but should go away after I have the baby.

Just curious to hear of anyone else's experiences....

I had it for the last few weeks of my last pg and I had never had it before. The only way I could get relief in bed was to keep it elevated - sometimes I would put an ice pack under it but only if it was really bad. It went away about 2-3wks after she was born. There have been a few threads on this that may have some more helpful solutions for you.

I have it now, at 34 weeks. Some days is worse than others, nights in bed are especially bad, offering no relief even when I elevate my hands.
My OB said that there is nothing we can do and will go away after the birth
It feels so weird with the tingling on the finger tips, and I just want it to stop.

Got it for the first time last night. Normally my hands are so swollen they are a bit numb but last night I had annoying aching in the wrist. grr, which made for a grumpy me cos I couldnt sleep. No idea how to treat it but maybe you could try the ice or elevation!

a friend of mine has it from occupational overuse and has had real trouble with typing. i hope pregnancy induced carpel tunnel is just from the extra swelling around the wrist cartlidge and therefore goes away!!

    Hi girls,

Yes, I am currently getting carpal tunnel (at 34 weeks) and have had it the last week or so. Same thing that it happens mostly at night, but I am left with a numb middle finger during the day. I mentioned it at my pregnancy yoga class last week to the midwife and she said it is likely to be carpal tunnel and that elevation can help somewhat, but I haven't found that much use. I looked it up in my pregnancy book and they suggested bandaging with a splint, which I haven't yet tried. I have found some positions more comfortable with it (eg. propping my arm up to cuddle around a pillow).

I have found it only to be bad in my right arm, while the left is fine, which I think is strange. Apparently it does go away not long after giving birth.

    Hi,
I have had carpal tunnel from about 30 weeks, I got some splints made and wear them at night.. has made the pain so much easier and can sleep without my hands going numb.

    Hi,
Yes I have it at night too, and wake up with sore and numb hands. My midwife told me to hold them up and wriggle them for a few minutes before sleep, during the night if you wake, and then before you get out of bed. It hasn't made any difference to me so far though.
