    Question The Dreaded Flu

I'm going ask a stupid question but...I have a bad case of the flu everything is hurting, just wanna know Beany wouldn't be sick would she? She's safe in their?

And does anyone have a magic cure for the flu that is safe to take while pregnant? Panadol isn't working.

Cass, the most important thing IMO to treat when you're sick and pg is fever. If you are sustaining a high temp, that could be dangerous to bubby. So while panadol may not be making your aches go away, if it is helping to control a temp then keep taking it. And maybe have some tepid baths to help with that too.
Unfortunately I don't know of any cold and flu meds that are safe for pregnancy. Others may? But lots of fluids and rest have been the most effective treatments for my colds while I've been pregnant (haven't had the flu while pg though - I really feel for you! Colds are bad enough).
I hope you're feeling much better soon.

Beany is not just safe, but in the safest place possible right now. Was like when we did the swab for pertussis with me, my Drs only real advice was to take it easy and try not to go into labour and she will be safe.

Natural products are great for fighting off flus when pg because you have no fear of any repercussions on baby. Ginger is great for nausea (I used ginger bikkies for my HG). Garlic fights off just about anything and helps your immune system. Honey is the ultimate soother.

I also recommend people avoid pre-packed and processed foods while fighting colds and flus. Your body simply functions better when it is dealing exclusively with food. For example, Nitrtes in processed bacon and ham are used to kill off bacteria that could devlop in the meat. It doesn't distinguish between the bad bacterias in the meat and the good ones in your body just going about their business.

Other than that, get as much rest as possible. Making a baby and fighting a virus can take a lot out of you making it less efficient at fighting the virus. Don't worry, your body has its priorities right. Baby gets put before everything else, so you look after yourself and it will look after your baby.

Oh vent away, I can totally relate. I am still coughing 3 weeks later. Its killing my stomach muscles. I have been in absolute agony around there for about a week now and every cough makes me want to cry. It really is just every part of horrible. Sadly though, all those symptoms is our body doing its job fighting it.

There is antibugs you can take if you really need them though - a good doctor can find one that is safe during pg. I ended up not taking mine because someone finally told me that the "cure" was worse than the problem. That it would make me even sicker than I was already feeling. I was so not up for that! I already feel like crap!

Fingers crossed your symptoms start easing in the morning. Maybe stick a bucket with hot water and vicks or eucalyptys oil just below the bed to help you breath while you try to sleep.
