I had Hungry Jacks (naughty naughty) for lunch on Friday and by Friday afternoon I was soo sick (sorry about the TMI) with the runs. I was ok by Saturday morning. Then saturday night, I went out for dinner with some friends and got sick again, this time with a lil bit of sick up(again with the runs - I'm soooo glad I made it home!) I know it was sat nights dinner coz I didn't have much at all during the day. I'm worried that baby hasn't been moving much since friday lunch time, and with the lunch and the dinner going right through me that it can harm my baby... I dont' want to go up to the hospital. Im up there forever! (Last time I was up there, they checked out the baby asap and then I had to wait 2 hours for them to take my obs.) I suppose I can ring them , but the answer is always come in. I will be seeing the midwife this friday ( and I could pop in on thurs after my physio antenatal class).
What do I do? Do you think there's a risk to my baby??
(BTW - I obviously didn't learn on Friday coz I had Hungry Jacks again today (sunday) and I'm sick all over again!)
I suffer food poisoning at the slightest dodgy thing. I have been hospitalised many times with it.
Last time was when I was about 34 weeks pregnant. I had a dodgy kebab, and spewed up for about 8 hours. There was nothing left in my stomach to spew. I was trying to drink water to rehydrate, and would just spew up water.
So off to the hospital I went. They checked the baby, and said it's all fine... and put me on a saline drip. I was finally able to have a rest as I hadn't 'swallowed' the water.
But then the drip was empty and I sat up - and puked the entire drip up again!!
So I had to have another drip! This time they put maxalon in it too - which is anti-nausea medication.
I had gone to hospital around midnight - and was still there at 9am. My husband had stayed with me the whole time, bless him. I was so ready to go home... But they had to ensure I wasn't going to throw up again. So they gave me a glass of juice and some crackers and they stayed down.
If you have runs & bit of vomiting... drink as many fluids as you possibly can. If you can't keep fluids down - then go to the hospital. But by the sounds of it - you have an upset tummy - and your baby will be totally fine!
If you are worried, you can always see your GP who will do a poo sample to identify the particular bug that is worrying you. That way if it's something that might last a bit longer (like giarrdhea) they can get onto treating it ASAP.
The other thing that is always useful for the runs is activated charcoal capsules. Not only do they slow the process down and take care of any painful wind, they also bind any toxins and carry them safely out the other end.
Hope you feel better soon, drink lots of fluids or gastrolyte to make sure you don't dry out too much.
Some forms of food poisoning can cause miscarriage. If you think what you had was food poisoning I'd suggest you get checked out ASAP.
I'd also be laying off the junk food. Researchers have found that high intake of trans fatty acids (the junk food you are referring to is very high in this) in pregnancy interferes with the enzyme needed to produce fats that are essential for the structure of the brain (your growing baby's). Just one of the reasons doctors recommend a healthy diet when pregnant.
Raspberry leaf tea / raspberry jam are all good for tummy bugs, food poisoning, gastro etc. You can also take probiotics to help get over the illness. Your baby will be okay!
