DDs 1 and 2 both carried very high and never actually engaged until I was in labour. This little one has been very high but last night I realised I could breath so much easier at about the same time I became aware of serious pressure low in my pelvis. I can feel what I am assuming is her head really low - about bikini line level. I've had some fairly strong pre-labour/BH over the last few days which I thought was pretty early but with DD2 they started around 35/36 weeks so figured it was just one of those things where each time is a little earlier IYKWIM.
Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it just that this little one is doing things differently to her sisters and so while it feels very strange/abnormal to me its actually just a different kind of normal? With DDs 1 and 2 I had absolutely no urge to pack my hospital bag (with DD1 I packed it when my OB sent me home from his office at 41 weeks to get my DH to go back to hospital for an induction), but over the last few days I've had that "I really should get on with it feeling".
Hopefully I'm just being weird and reading waaaay too much into things, but would appreciate reassurance.
This is my third and the midwife and sonographer at my ultrasound last week both said bubs head is down very low but not engaged. I don't look low though, I look like I'm carrying quite high really!
I have just cleaned and scrubbed the fridge, vacumed the house from top to bottom and I mean a proper vacum where I pulled everything out that I could and skirting boards etc, Nesting maybe.....and I have a strong urge to pack my bag this week!! So I'm the same as you and I still have 6 weeks to go! First was 6 days early and second was born on her due date so I don't expect to go over....I wouldn't be worried, just prepared
You probably are reading too much into it, but if you feel uncertain I'd definitely talk to someone about it simply to put your mind at ease if for no other reason.
I can't remember exactly when DS engaged, but I do remember it was somewhere in the mid to late 20 weeks…..maybe week 26 or 27. As in head fully in pelvis could DEFINITELY feel his head when I was walking sitting standing…bascially had a head between my legs for a good 15 weeks. As for contractions I started getting BH in week 16. Apparently while not common it does still happen and my ob wasn't at all concerned simply because my cervix was still firm and I wasn't remotely dialted. DS went full term…born 1 day before his EDD.
I also think you're reading too much into it But there's no point worrying so I'd definitely ask. DD engaged at about 26 weeks, and the feeling was much lower than my bikini line. For the rest of my pregnancy I had a bowling ball between my legs lol. As others said, I could feel her head if I say down, standing, bending was terrible...it was all the time and it felt like her head was literally in my vagina
Thanks ladies. Turns out she wasn't engaged - just moved around into a very uncomfortable position for a while but thankfully (I think) now has her head alternating between my right rib cage, left rib cage and pelvis in pretty much equal time. So hoping the silly miss doesn't get stuck the wrong way with no room to move when it gets too squeezy in there.
I'm 3cm dilated already with a soft cervix so I'm glad I went to get it checked out.
Don't like the idea of a bowling ball between my legs at all!! Makes me thankful my last two never engaged until I was in active labour.
I never got that real bowling ball feeling either... thankfully
Not long to go hun. Hang in there. You know even if Princess did pop out now, chances are good she'd be fine. I read an article today and something like 98.6% of babies born at 31 weeks are ok.
That's a nice stat to know OP. Thanks. Its funny - after having two girls who were so overdue I've been joking about what I'd give for this little one to come early. Now I'd give anything for that overdue guarantee. Some of us are just never happy
