well i dont know what else to do. My tail bone and left inner butt cheek (leg joint on hip), are absolutely killing me. Im 34 weeks preggers now. And the pain started last sat. I cant move much, except like a robot. Its seems to have gotten worse. Im presuming if i go to the docs they will just say, oh its just the pregnancy and not much can be really done. This is all i need to hear, as if when going into labour wont be painful enough!. So im wondering if there is anything over the counter i could get from the chemist.
Ive already done the hot showers, and put deep heat creams on, (not sure if your allowed while pregnant, but if your desperate, youll do anything!, and even this has not helped.
Im close to tears today, because i feel do dibilitated. I cant go up and down the steps, i cant lean over to pick up things, i cant sit, stand or lay without the pain. I feel like im going crazy. A friend of mine has gone so far as to say, maybe ive broken my tail bone!!!! WTH???
Any one with a similiar situation, and have found some remedies to ease the pain, please tell me!lol
Thanks
Mel
p.s. this is my third pregnancy, and i know i didnt have such severe lower back/tail bone pain with the previous two.

Maybe see a physio? I saw one for a few weeks last month for my lower back and hip pain and OMG it was good.
You could always try pelvic tilts standing against the wall. Otherwise I do these exercises...
* cat stretch - on all fours, tuck your tailbone under and draw your chin to chest curving your back upwards, then reverse it tailbone, drop your belly, lift your chin up...I get a nice flowing motion which helps loosen me up
* dog tail - on all fours again, move your left hip out and turn your head around to the left to look behind you and do the same on the right side...like a dog chasing its tail..
* on all fours (again!) and reach your right arm under your body as far as comfortable reaching out to the other side of the room, you can rest your shoulder on the floor/bed and you'll feel a nice stretch along the top of the hips/lower back...do the same with the left arm
I tend to do these when i wake up and before I get out of bed, which is when my back is the sorest and it helps loosen things up and then I have the nice hot shower, makes everything more bearable during the day.
Unfortunately things got worse for me last night, and hubby was close to ringing up an ambulance!. It got to a point that i couldnt walk at all, without yelping out in pain. My kids were in distress at seeing me crying, so i said i just need to lay for awhie. I didnt want to drag my kids along with me to hospital when it was already after 10. The pain didnt stop trobbing. I couldn't turn in bed, as my left leg was like lead, and any movement was agonising. After midnight i struggled to the bathroom and had a hot soak in the bath. The only relief i could get. I almost felt like sleeping in the bath.
After i said to hubby, if this doesnt help, just to ring up the hospital. And ask them for a wheel chair, cause there is no way i can walk!. I never thought a sore tail bone could get this bad.
After i struggled out of the bath and lay down and managed to get some sleep. This morning, my back is thankfully a little easier to deal with, although still quite sore. I said im not going to go through this again tonight. If the pain starts again, im going to the hospital without thinking twice about it.

Hi there,
Just wanted to say that I think any really bad back pain in pregnancy should be checked out by your Doctor/ob/midwife just in case. If it is just normal pregnancy pain then that's great, in which case I would recommend going to an osteo! I esperienced shocking public symphasis pain in both my pregnancies and found that massage and the osteo helped. Although I don't want to alarm you, I did have my first baby premature and the labour started with bad back pain, so I just think it is better to err on the side of caution.
Yes im thinking on and off, that i probably will have this baby earlier than expected. So i wont be surprised if it does happen. This pregnancy has not been easy. But if i do go early, hopefully it wont be too early, as ive still got another 6 weeks to go.
Im relieved to say that my back is more managable today, and last night it didnt get as bad as the night before, thank god!. Had a soak in the bath with the Radox muscle soak, which was of some relief. Hubby went to the chemist and also got me a hot water bottle and some deep heat cream, but didnt use it, as i was ok laying in bed.
Im starting to feel better as each day passes, although still sore, and not keen to walk around. or use the steps! Ill keep in mind about the physio and ob. Tommorrow ive got an ultrasound appointment, i wonder if anything would come up on that?
Hey Mel,
Lets hope that you do go the whole way! That's great that the pain has settled down for you too. I'm sure that the sonographer would be able to see if anything was amiss, maybe just let him/her know that you've had some lower back pain. The stretches that Laranna mentioned would be great to do too, especially since it is always good to spend lots of time on all fours in terms of positioning of bubba in the final trimester. The other stretch you could do to help with the pain near your hip joint is a glut stretch. On the side that you are experiencing the pain, just rest your ankle on the opposite knee and lean forward. The tail bone pain may be due to it moving out in preparation for birth (which it is supposed to do to make room for bub to come sown the birth canal).
thanks for your post. Well i got some answers today, after getting the ultrasound done. The woman nearly fell off the chair (well that might be a bit extreme!lol), but said that bubs is already measuring 37 weeks, 3.5 kilos, when im only 34 weeks pregnant!. She did the measurments twice just to make sure, and it was the same result. She said there is no way the docs would allow me to give birth in 6 weeks, but earlier. If i was to wait till the due date, bubs will be well over 10 pounds by then!!!!lol.
She says probably ill be induced in 3 weeks time, but thats her opinion. And believes i should get another ultrasound done to see whats going on with the growth rate. I told her i had a big baby before, my son was over 9 pounds, and was born 9 days over due. And she said, well this baby your carrying is going to be much bigger!
So that pretty much explains my back pains!. Ive got a doctors appointment this arvo. Hopefully he will give me a physio referral or something, because its driving me nuts. It comes and goes, but doesnt go away. Hubby had to drive the car, because i cant even do that!.
Hi Mel, I'm glad that you are feeling happier about things and that you have some answers as to why you have pain. Hopefully the doctor can give you some more ideas on how to help your back. You might also be interested in some of the articles about having big bubbas that are on BB to prepare yourself, if you are interested I have posted a link Here.
Goodluck with it all
well i went to the doctors, and he was just a jerk. Didnt offer any help. Except to say thats its the pregnancy..bla bla bla. And that im likely to suffer till the end of the pregnancy. So he gave me some panadein tablets. But said not to take too many as it can effect the baby!. I said can i see a physio person or something?. And he said no, as im in the later stages of the pregnancy. So that was basically it!.
This thursday ive got a midwife appointment, so ill see what she says.
As for now, looks like ill have to stick to the hot baths, and taking things extremely slow. I wont even bother with the panadein tablets.
Mel, you don't need a doctors referral to go and see a physio and it's perfectly fine to see them towards the end of pregnancy. I only saw mine a couple of weeks ago and it helped immensely! I also saw the hospital physio (where I'm having the baby) with DP there and the physio showed him ways to rub my lower back to help with the aches and pains.
I agree with Laranna, it is fine to see a physio in the later stages of pregnancy. I went to see an osteopath specifically in the last stage of pregnancy for PSD and she also helped with positioning of bub.
You can also get massage which I'm sure would help, just ensure that it's a person trained in prenatal massage. My massage therapist had a pregnancy bean bag - which is a big bean bag with a hole in the middle for your tummy. It was SOOOOO comfortable, just being able to lye on my front was heaven in itself!
