    Sore leg muscles

I started back at yoga just over a week ago and for that time I've had sore lower leg muscles (calves and all the way round my leg), plus my inner thighs are also sore, like i've strained them. But it's been 4 days since yoga and i would have thought the pain should be gone by now.

I thought maybe the lower leg pain might be from wearing knee high socks (for warmth) so I used some normal socks today and when I've had a shower there is a definite ring around where my sock finished and the rest of my lower legs look swollen.

Is the stretching I did in Yoga just taking longer to settle or is it something else?
I've felt huge today and i have a sore throat also.

I have my next OB appointment tomorrow so can ask but i'm sure you all know how thoughts can start racing.

Am I just being paranoid or what?

    Hi Belinda,

Congrats on your pg, not long to go now!

There are probably a few factors involved in your leg pain...

    1) seeing as you have just started back at yoga, your body might be taking a little while to wind down post-class

    2) being 30 weeks pg your body is starting to, or maybe already has been, releasing relaxin which is the hormone that allows your ligaments to relax and loosen to allow your pelvis to widen and birth your baby. What this means is that your joints have greater movement but your muscle elasticity doesn't necessarily increase at the same time. So activities like yoga which require different poses and postures will get your joints opening up but you need to be mindful of any muscle resistance that you feel during those exercises.

    3) the swelling in your lower legs is pretty common during pregnancy. It's usually not a problem, but mention it to your Ob while you're there and he or she can check it out for you.

As the days pass I'm thinking the pain is more to do with the swelling. My OB said he wasn't concerned about it and I see him in another 1.5 weeks but the area that is swollen, below the knee, is sore to touch and feels like i've pulled the muscles. Also the inside of my thighs are sore.

I'm actually wondering if it is caused by sleeping with my Snoogle pillow and restricted blood flow from being in one spot. Either way I need to figure it out as it hurts.
