I had my 36 week checkup on Tuesday and the midwife measured my fundal height at being 40. So this means that I am as big as what I should be at 40 weeks which makes me 4 weeks early! Has anyone else had this and will it mean that baby will be really big? My first baby was 3.85kg. I have a caesar on 31 December and wonder if baby will run out of space by then.
Its normal for fundal height to be 2 cm above or below. So measuring 40 doesn't mean your measuring 40 weeks.
I was big all along, at my 39 week check I was 43cm... Ash was 11 pounds though!
Hi
I am measuring 2 weeks ahead of what I should Be. My OB did an ultrasound and said I am carrying extra fluid, baby is normal size and very healthy.

When I asked my Obs today why he hadn't measured my fundal height he said that its usually done by people who don't have a lot of experience at knowing if a baby is big or not. Its certainly not accurate and nothing to be worried about. He said he didn't need a measuring tape to know we have a big baby in there. Plus our growth scan at 28 weeks had him at 80th centile so that clarified his opinion.
HI!! Thanks for this thread. I too had my fundal height measured at 34+3 weeks and measured at 40. The midwife didn't say much, I had to ask what my measurement was. She basically said that I had put on too much weight (roughly 11kgs whole pregnancy). I don't trust her though because at a previous appointment she measured me once, didn't like the measurement so did it again. There was a difference between the two of 3cm.
I am not tusting what she said re the measurement, but I didn't like leaving the office feeling like a huge beached whale. Both of my DB were over 8 pound, so that is what I am expecting with this one too.
