I had GD with DD, but I also went straight to the 2hr test instead of having the 1hr one first because I had weighed 112kg when I found out I was pregnant (I had lost 16kg by 16wks and stayed at that same weight for the rest of the pregnancy).
Mine was insulin managed from 35wks onwards as I couldn't manage it by diet alone any more (I couldn't be very active either being on semi-permanent couch rest).
They broke my waters at my request at 40+2 after 3wks of constant irregular contractions and DD was born in a successful 4hr 43min VBAC labour weighing 3.65kg (8 pounds).
In saying that I lost 6kg with DS and didn't have GD, and he was born at 41+5 by emergency c-sec weighing 3.774kg (8 pound 3).
Each baby is different and just because you have GD doesn't mean your baby will autmatically be "big" either. Stick to your guns and don't let any OB or midwife push you around and you can have a vaginal delivery WHEN your baby is ready to be born.
Good luck hun!
