sorry - couldn't find a herbal thread and this was the best location - please advise if you know of a more suitable place to post.
I am 40 weeks pregnant on Friday and have got the flu.... along with the rest of my family
today my hypnotherapist/herbalist prescribed "triple strength garlic + C, horseradish, fenugreek & marshmallow" by Nature's Own. This product contains 1500mg horseradish (armoracia rusticana) extract equiv. to 1.5g dry root, and 50mg fenugreek (trigonella foenumgracum) extract equiv. to dry seed
When I went to the chemist, they advised against if for pregnancy and when I rang the Nature's Own helpline they said that due to anecdotal evidence of early induction and abortion (earlier in pregnancy) and the fact that there had been no clinical trials on pregnant women (which i take to mean, nor will there likely be).... they recommended against taking fenugreek and horseradish during pregnancy.
Scouring the internet has basically confirmed these findings - but with no evidence of why or what the risk really is.
Does anyone know a little more about herbal remedies for the flu during pregnancy, and given that I'm just about 40 weeks pregnant, is natural induction such a bad thing anyway?
Thanks for your $0.02 !!
/Tanya

I do know that fenugreek can help with breastmilk, but that's about it. I'd be really tempted to call your midwife to ask them - they seem to know stuff better than docs!
