How to keep amused in final days/weeks

    What do/have you done?
I live on a farm... my closest neighbours are 2-3kms away. I have my little 21 month old to look after aswell, and I'm finding it difficult to do anything but think about when my DD is going to arrive.

I can't drive, as I'm too big to fit behind the wheel, and it's far too dangerous considering it's a 200km round trip to town.

SO who has some ideas? I'm not much of a cook... I would prefer to poke my eyes out with chopsticks than bake cakes etc. I'm trying to just relax as much as I can before everything happens... aka dodging as much housework as possible, and other than those things, and playing with DS, I can't think of anything else to do.

Any ideas? I was in town last pregnancy so I just walked around the shops and visited friends all the time.

Seeing how I still have so long to go I was thinking about measuring the circumfrence of my belly every day to see how the baby is growing! Just seems fun.

Other than that, DH and I are taking all nasty additives out of our daily diet so going through the cupboard with the list was very eye opening. On wednesday we will be heading out to do the shopping early so we can re-organise our shopping list. Going through the house working out what we do and don't need. Trying to reclaim some semblance of control over things... and of course Haz also gets a good whack of mummy/daddy time - when he could be bothered with it, lol.

Just the odd things you dont normally think about until you are forced to. Seems to be keeping us occupied while waiting for the yp to hit doorsteps.

Put your digital prints into albums!

I'm sure many pregnant woman have said they'll do this and NEVER get around to it but anyway, my plan is to print a heap of our digital photos and actually put them into albums!

We did a huge round-the-world trip (backpacked for a year) and have a couple of thousand photos that are all album-worthy. I also thought I'd print our random good ones from our day to day lives from over the years and pop them into albums too. Very rarely do we sit down and look back at our photos on the computer and with a rug-rat on the way, I thought it would be nice to have lots of pics in albums to show Tarko what life was like for us before we became parents.

You could start designing your own Thank You cards on your computer for after your bub is born. Insert bub's name and leave spaces for any other info you want and of course leave room for a photo .

Then when your bub is here all you have to do is fill out the extra details, add the photo and you're ready to print and post them

heheheeh - we've got this organised already!

next big project for me is designing baptism invites - Gremlin will be baptised when she's 8 weeks old (if she arrives on EDD) so we want to be able to get the invites out within the first couple of weeks of her life - means i get to design it all before she gets here. still need to talk to the priest to confirm time and stuff, so can't print them yet, but i can do all the other bits and pieces...

i also have a cross stitch on the go at the moment which i'm working on trying to get it finished...

this is probably daggy...and no doubt does fall into the baking of cake category...BUT....

i actually went bonkers in the last week with the antci....pation of DDs arrival so i started a memory book (ok ok...a scrapbook LOL!). i began to put together all the bits and bobs of the pregnancy journey documenting all the milestones. i ripped out the texta's (i didnt know at that stage that you could buy cool stickers and the like for scrapbooking so did lots of drawings and fancy colouring-in LOL!) and went nuts. i stuck in the print outs of her scans and stuck in the cards we received and put in the photos documenting the weeks of my growing belly and pictures of the nursery etc etc. it was really therapeutic for me. and in the end i decided to keep going and document her first year.

now i absolutely adore it, and i think it will be a lovely thing to show her as she grows.

    just an idea....

Oh, I feel your pain (or boredom)!

I hated those last few weeks. Time just dragged! I'm not much of a cook either, but I actually cooked a bunch of meals to freeze for the first few weeks after bub came, and I'm sooo glad I did! I also did a pretty big clean (the house was spotless). Once I'd done all that and bub still hadn't come, I ended up starting a cross stitch. Apart from that I watched a lot of TV and movies.

Sorry I don't have any more exciting suggestions, but I do feel for you. Those last few weeks are really hard .

Niadla, I'm in a similar position to you. The nearest town (as in somewhere that has more than a post office and a pub) is 150km round trip, and our nearest neighbours are 20km away. I can still drive okay, but its really tricky getting in and out of the toyota hilux!

I spend a ridiculous amount of time of the internet, plus do heaps of washing, and organising, writing lists, really boring stuff I guess. I'm still working - I work from home - so I dont have time to feel too bored yet. I see you are a two weeks ahead of me.

I've been knitting and crocheting heaps - its good for my carpel tunnel syndrome, plus I get heaps of cute little hats for bubs! I also really need to do what Taurean mentioned and thats sort out my digital photos. Still have the wedding shots to sort and it would be really great to do that before bubs arrives..... We'll see what happens.

    Good luck

Cheers all. So far... I've just done housework (joy!) played with the boy, and then for fun I whipped out the breast pump adn expressed some colostrum for fun. haha

Luckily I get out of the house Weds for my next appt (although MIL has to be my chauffer), so might try a spot of shopping (which is walk around for about 30 mins, then collapse on a chair and drink like a camel before getting up and walking around for another 30 mins).

haha and I'm quite confident that I will go overdue.... haha imagine me in 2 weeks time!!!!

Doing the photo books and birth announcements actually sounds really good. Split it with DH. I will do the pics and he can do the announcements seeing how he loves playing with indesign.

    Thanks!!
