    Increased movement

I've probably just scared myself silly googling for no reason...but I just had to get up cause bubs has been moving practically non-stop for a while now...OH has been lying in bed giggling at the kicks...they were quite strong kicks and very frequent, almost frantic I guess, and they were going on for about 10 minutes or so. Normally I wouldn't be worried, any movement is good, but it's 3 in the morning, and it just seemed to be so constant for a long period. Is this normal, am I worrying over nothing?? A few items in google said it could indicate a problem with the cord, like it being wrapped around her neck or something which has me really worried...she's still moving around now but has settled down a bit.

OH's cousin recently lost his baby at full term, they said the night before she had gone in to the hospital for a c/s the baby was moving around like a little footballer...then the next morning it had gone...at the time OH thought maybe the movement was an indication of distress, and right now I can't get that out of my mind

Am I just being overly paranoid?? Have an appointment with the midwife on Thursday so will ask them then, or tomorrow night at our first antenatal class...but thought I would see if anyone has any thoughts...I knew I shouldn't have googled!!

Stay away from Google! And also hugs to you about your cousin , no wonder you're feeling so worried, I can totally understand.

It really is normal for your bub to have extra-active spurts, my DS1 would do that quite a lot and he stilll hasn't stopped that behaviour 4 1/2 years later LOL! But seriously, it does sound normal and it is also normal that your bub has calmed down now and will probably have big sleep after that huge effort. If you are feeling overly stressed about it all, give your hospital a call and tell them what your bub has been doing and explain why you feel worried about it. I'm sure they will reassure you over the phone or even offer to monitor your bub.

    Hi SS Storm
I agree with Trish, this is quite normal. If the cord was around the neck I would expect to see decreased movements not increased movements. Also it would be very unusual for the cord to wrap around the neck and cause a problem when your baby is still inside your uterus. However for your piece of mind I’m sure that your hospital would check your baby if you asked them

As bub gets bigger the somersaults will seem more intense to you, but they are about the same as what bub has been doing for quite some time. Soon they will run out of room for such big movements, so dont worry, and just have a giggle at how much your belly wobbles from the movement.

Thankyou so much Feeling a lot more relieved now. I did think it would be more of a worry if she wasn't moving around at all, but last night she just didn't seem to stop for ages, and some of them were pretty violent movements! Maybe we just have a little disco dancer on our way...lol.

And Trish I promise to stay away from Google

Thanks again! Hopefully might get a bit more sleep tonight...feeling rather exhausted right now!

    Hi Ss Storm...

my bump is also extremely active atm, jumping around all day yesterday & didn't stop for long, has settled a little bit today but not much and is squirming as i type...
This is baby #4, and I don't remember the others being this busy? (I could have just forgotten tho) so maybe it just means we will have our hands full as they get older!..

I also wondered if it 'meant' anything, it is good to read all the reassuring replies

    here's wishing you a good night's sleep

Hi jasp, everything is still going well here, bub is still moving/wriggling around so I'm guessing all is fine! It just seemed so strange for it to be 3am and she wouldn't stop moving for so long...DF said it's like she's fighting something...lol. Or maybe every other time she moves around like that I don't wake up and never really know any different! Who knows....babies eh...I think I'm going to be a bit of a worry-wart mum....

Glad to hear you are feeling more relaxed
I am wondering if it's the bananas I have been eating (I heard the potassium helps fluid retention )

and ... as for being a worrywart Mum... welcome to the club! this is only the beginning :P and most mothers I know are the same (altho some of us worry more than most?)

    Hiya,

I was pleased to see this question as I cannot believe how active this wee one has all last night and today. He kept me awake most of the night and my husband was astonished with the movements he felt. I feel like I have a litter of puppies swirming around inside, its funny you worry when they don't move much..you worry when they do, the poor little mites don't win do they? .

Saw GP yesterday & he confirmed that more movement is better than little .. I guess we knew that? but nice to hear it anyway. Bump has been a little quieter last 2 days but still very busy.
Now, just because I'm me & I have to worry about something... I am thinking, at some point, she is going to run out of room in there & slow down... that's when I will really start to worry!... even though I know it is normal...
tell me, what do you do to combat all this?
