Induction with Cervidil anyone had it before

im being induced on wed if my lil man doesnt come on his own i had an appt yesterday and wasnt really happy with my treatment i was handed a phamplet on induction i have had 2 before and this is completely different they want me to have cervidil on the 16th then if nothing happens break my waters and give syntocin on the thursday morning but i didnt really ask anything about this cervidil ive never had it before so thought i would google it and am now worried as i wasnt told the effects and im pretty certain i dont want it it just seems to risky or am i worrying about nothing

Cervidil may increase the risk of uterine rupture, which leads to fetal death about 1 in 4 cases. It may cause uterine hyperstimulation, which can cause abnormal fetal heart rate. The use of Cervidil requires the constant monitoring of your baby's heart rate, which greatly decreases your mobility during labor.

eugh, doesn't sound like something i would want either! why are they going to use that? is it the same hospital you were induced at with the other 2 or different hospital? i would talk to them about it and say what you're feeling. you shouldn't be forced into having something done that you don't want, you should be given options, so maybe ask what they are? and don't be afraid to say that you have researched this type of induction and that you aren't happy with the statstics and don't feel comfortable with that....see what they say? all the best.

Is that the gel? If it is I've had it
I had it with my first pregnancy and I hated every-minute of it...
It wasn't I hated the drug I hated the feeling it put me quiet on edge and very irritated...
I had it 24 hrs before my actual iv induction

i think i had cervidil - it's more like a tape than the gel, is that right?

i had it inserted one evening & then when labour hadn't kicked in, i had an ARM & then on the drip the next morning.

i requested a wireless monitoring pack so i could still move around despite the monitoring (although in the end i had a horrible back labour & didn't really feel like it). i did feel that my labour & birth were very medical but i think that's not so much the cervidil as being induced in general. i didn't have a uterine rupture but in the end DS was an assisted delivery (forceps) because his heart rate dropped & they were concerned. i'm not sure if that was specifically due to cervidil or just a case of being induced when he wasn't ready.

sending lots of labour vibes your way - cmon little man!

If it's the gel, I've had it twice with no problems. Second time was for post dates, and one dose put me into full on labour. They will monitor you for 15 minutes post insertion then generally every few hours. I was monitored once in about 9 hours. Remember they are listing possibilities and possible side effects and they always sound bad.

It is the same hospital i had my last DD at and with her they just did the drip had no problems almost the perfect labour apart from being induced they are going to induce when i am 42wks if i dont go sooner

it is the tape if it doesnt work the will do the arom and put drip in the next morning if i had my way which in this pregnancy i have felt very dictated to instead of what i would llike i would just go the drip ive had it 2 out of 3 times already and havnt needed forceps or assistance its just tad frustrating. It is number 4 so im sorta a pro at it but treated like this is my first see how i go on wed if he doesnt come just went for a 6km walk

I had a cervidil cervix ripener? Is that it? Its sort of like a tampon that they insert under your cervix to prepare it for induction. If that's what it is I had it and it actually induced labour which the mw said wasn't meant to happen and if it did it was very rare, its soley just to ripen the cervix so that induction works better and quicker. Having rambled all that, which I'm sure doesn't make sense, I had a wonderful, quick labour that didn't require induction which I liked and ds is now a happy and healthy 5 month old. The pamphlet I got on the cervidil didn't state those risks that you mentioned coz if they did there is no way I would have gone throuh with it. It basically said what its meant to do and the side affects which where things like nausea, diohrrea, lower tummy pains and in rare cases labour. And it clearly stated the cervidil wouldn't directly effect the baby
