ooooh, this thread is very interesting. Now, I've never been keen on pap tests etc. or any kind of medical examination involving taking my clothes off (to the point where my lovely doctor joked with me about my boyfriend at one consultation "blimey, he must have been very persuasive") as I huffed and puffed and flummoxed around with my shirt buttons.
I think, however, that all this changed when my female GP did a pap smear a few years ago and told me "you have the healthiest cervix I've ever seen" and I was RIDICULOUSLY proud. I swear it was as good as being told "you're the spitting image of Naomi Campbell" (which I'm obviously not).
Anyhow, having said all that, I think I might turn into an internal addict during labour. I just think I will want to know how dilated I am to see how I'm progressing. I realise this may be soul-destroying if the answer is "not very far" but I can't imagine not being curious.
I think the midwife at antenatal class suggested that an internal once every four hours would be about normal. Which seemed like a helluva long time to wait to me!
