Leaking after going to the loo

    Hey girls

I seem to be leaking a bit after each loo visit... is this normal at this stage? I don't recall it happening first time around... I don't know if it could be waters slowing leaking or not.. I don't have another midwife visit till Xmas eve and already had one false alarm...hoping that my next visit to the birth suite is for real!
Also still having period type pain so just don't know what is going on, I just don't want it to be something that all of a sudden I start getting an urge to push, cos I've heard of women going into labour with minutes to spare...

Thanks for any help I guess I'm just getting impatient lol

ok. Here is my verdict... and I dont want to panic you.. but...at 37 weeks with my dd2 i went to the loo and then got up and leaked. so i sat down (thought maybe there was more...) then got up and leaked again.... DD was born 45 mins later. I had been having BH's all day and didnt realize they were actually the real thing.

so just keep calm, listen to your body, keep someone close by to help you out. AND if its worrying you got to the hospy.... it doesnt matter if you have half a dozen false starts... you dont want to be caught by surprise!

Hun I am not sure how much a concern it is but I have a feeling that leaking amniotic fluid isnt a great thing as doesnt the baby need all the amniotic fluid around it to keep it from being distressed??? I could be wrong but I think you should just give your antenatal clinic or the maternity ward at your hospital a quick call and let them know. They might ask you to come in or they might ask you some more questions about it.

I hope everything is okay, but better to have two false alarms than be going into labour and baby being stressed.

It isn't leaking as bad but i did leak a bit during the night... It does have a smell, but not sure if its urine or not...its a strong smell... Maybe I should get checked out especially if it keeps happening today... All my dreams were about my waters breaking last night... so don't know if I'm just worrying or its a sign

I used to leak everytime I stood up from using the toilet in my 3rd trimester.
    Pads became my best friend.

The baby can keep making amniotic fluid. It can be clear, pale yellow or pink in colour, I don't remember an obvious odour. You should contact your clinic if labour has not started within 24 hours. My waters broke at 33 weeks, and it was a significant amount, certainly something impossible to ignore, my fluid levels were low, but ok I was started on antibiotics. I have a friend who is curretnly being treated for a small leak at 28 wks, she is on oral antibiotics and has been sent home to rest. It seams to have healed up.She described her leak as feeling like that of heavy AF. At 36 weeks they may start antibiotics if labour has not started withing 24 hours, or consider induction. If the fluid is stained or has an offensive odour go to your clinic ASAP.

    HI Mum2charlott,

My husband and I had the same scare only recently! I had a clear fluid run down my leg and we went to the hospital and spent some alone time in the birth suite lol. all it was is just a little bit of wee that got left behind. But I would ring your hospital and get it checked. always ring if you are concerned they tell me lol!!

    I hope this helps

    Deb,
Same here. I go to the loo and pretty sure I am done only to sit back down on the lounge and bag my nickers are all wet and I had no idea how that happened. Sometimes it looks and smells like wee, but lately its more creamy and sticky but no real nasty smell. Obs said that I should get the swab done to rule anything nasty out. But this has been happening to me for about a month or so. But as the pressure builds up and bump drops more more leaking is happening. So I am curious to if this is just me being a leaker instead of a gusha. AF pains and lower back pain and BH are happening too but not with any regularity.

Let me know what you discover

I think its just wee as it hasn't been as bad... but if it gets any worse or starts gushing I'll be sure to go to the hospital and see my midwife!!! I guess I forget wat happens around this time of pregnancy lol, I feel like its my first time again lol.

Bub is still moving heaps so know he must be ok in there, I really don't know how he manages to make such moves when he must be running out of room lol!

I would put on a pad and call the hospital to have it checked, just to be on the safe side. I was slowly leaking last pg and didn't realise it was amniotic fluid. WHen I went in for the induction I mentioned it, they checked it, tghen I was stuck on a drip the whole labour. Bub came out distressed, and they put him on an a/b drip too and all the while I felt full of guilt for having not got it checked. I had had a false alarm earlier which is why I was reluctant to get it checked that time. However they really don't mind. I had thought, well if this is really labour, something will start happening soon enough... it didn't. Luckily his bloods came back clear of infection but until the tests came back I was worrying like mad, and beating myself up over it. Not a nice way to spend your first 24hrs as a Mum. Getting it checked takes no time at all - you give them the pad, they put this stuff on ity and if amniotic fluid is present it changes colour. Much easier than worrying, and doesn't put them out at all - that's what they are there for.

If the leakage is urine, this can be really common due to weakening of the pelvic floor muscles - a result of the weight of the baby in the 3rd tri. I experienced this during the last months of my pregnancy even though I had been doing pelvic floor muscle exercises and pilates weekly! The good news is that I have no lasting pelvic floor issues, no lasting incontinence issues... however it does show the importance of keeping up the exercises.

If the leakage is amniotic fluid, of course it is really important to get it checked out and monitored.

I did read somewhere that there are or can sometimes be, 2 fluid sacs, the main one surrounding the baby and a posterior, smaller one which can break and leak without any danger to the baby. Not sure if this is true or not though and as always, it is always best to get things checked out as has been previously suggested.
