Question Leaking Fluid....Bit of a TMI

    Hi,

I have been noticing the last few days perhaps even for a week (haven't been keeping track) that I have been leaking a clear fluid? Not driping like a tap or anything but just like I go to change my panty liner and the underwear around the liner feels damp like I have pee'd myself? Do you think I could be leaking amniotic fluid or do you think that my Bladder might be letting go a little without me realising?

I'd give your hossy a call and pop in so they can check for you. All they do is swab your pad and they can tell there and then if it is amniotic fluid. I had something really similar to what you're describing and it did turn out that it was a hind water leak, even though everyone was sceptical to begin with because I wasn't dripping. So in my experience, you can't be too careful.

Thanks Miss E I think that I will give my Midwife a call and just check to see if its normal. I hate bothering them with all the questions but I guess its better to be safe than sorry?

The fluid doesn't smell at all and there is no blood or anything?

Yeah I think it well worth it, amniotic fluid usually doesn't smell (if it is discharge or urine it will). Going from my own personal experience I wouldn't settle for anything other than having your pad swabbed. Everyone told me that there was no way it could be amniotic fluid because I didn't have a drip, they were so suprised when it was. It is definately better to be safe than sorry... Even if it means you look a bit paranoid in the process

Cervical mucous can become quite watery in the 3rd Trimester.

I had numerous trips to Birth Suite because I had, had fluid run down my legs and thought it was my waters breaking!

As the others have said, Amnionic Fluid can smell quite similar to semen.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd recommend calling the Hospy and having a chat with a Midwife though!

    Good luck!

    Hi Ladies,

    I have an update...

Spoke to my Midwife and she said to put a fresh panty liner on or pad and monitor how much fluid is coming out over the next few hours. If I get anymore watery fluid (more then 1 tablespoon) I am to call them and they will meet me at the Pregnancy Assessment Unit for a "look inside" and a swab test. They said that what I am experiencing is most likely Cervical Mucus as that can change and increase in the third Trimester but they said that I should just monitor it for the time being. They also suggested laying down for a few minutes and then standing up and seeing if anything watery comes away. If water does come away I am to call them immediatly as it may be my waters leaking.

That attitude from the hospital just peeves me off totally..... why do mid wards have to be so damn revolting to pregnant woman??
I was told that my pre labour was ***** ligament pain... again i actually have been in labour before and have felt ligament pain so i knew what they were telling me was aload of crap ... i was 35 weeks pregnant and guess what my baby now is nearly 37 wks and so engaged and fix so obviously the pre labour cx i have been feeling was the baby getting into position!

Yeah I agree they always tend towards the "your probably overreacting" side of things which annoys me because most women are quite in tune with their Bodies and know when something is out of routine.
Lucky for me I haven't had much more of the watery fluid so I have put it down to watery CM.

Bubno.3 - I was also admitted to the Antenatal Assessment Unit for a few hours of observation because I was having contraction like pains and was told that it was ligament pain and not to worry.

I also love it how they say - :"oh your not going to have your baby early - most mothers go over due for their first one." I feel like yelling "How do I F*****G know whether I am in Labour or not, I have never been pregnant before, If I am feeling contraction like pains what else am I to assume?!" Plus I was 2 weeks early and I was a first bub?

HAHA sorry about the Rant. I just wish they didn't fob people off so easily!
