Ok, with only a few days to go, I just want to find out specifically what you all wore to bed in hospital at night after birth? I want to be comfortable, not too hot or cold (winter or summer PJ's?) and be able to breastfeed easily. I am hoping for a natural birth (but who knows, I could have a ceaser if there are probs).
So what PJ's did you wear, what bra (I've heard you have to wear a bra - is that right? Why?) and even what undies (ie. old ones)???
I wanted to be comfy so I wore a singlet and my undies, just like I do at home. There were 3 to a room, so if any of the other woman had visitors I would put on a dressing gown otherwise I just walked to the bathroom in my singlet and undies. Keep in mind the hospitals keep a constant temperature and its usually a bit on the warm side too.
I wore pj bottoms and a t shirt, cheap black undies and maternity bra. With breastfeeding I found it easier to just take the top and bra off completely, they just get in the way when you and your new baby are trying to work out breastfeeding, also nice to get some skin to skin contact, promotes bonding and stimulates your supply, and you have lovely cuddles with your newborn . All the best for your upcoming birth, very soon by the sounds of it, so exciting!
I wore cotton PJ bottoms and top. Next time I would probably wear a singlet instead though as it is a bit on the warm side in the rooms.
I wore crop tops instead of a bra while I was in there as well.
Ditto on the pj bottoms. I have a really nice satin set with pants and chamise top. Always far more comfortable in pants post baby. Think its coz it keeps my wobbly tummy in tight so it doesnt feel so.... empty.
definitely cheap black undies. I knew I was having a c-section so I bought a size too big so they would come way up over my scar. Not a good look, but comfort is the most important thing!
yup, i just wore my normal pj's and hitched my top up if need be. if you have a loose fitting nursing top that is comfy to sleep in then i'd go that too.
and a nice comfy maternity bra. you have them on as usually your bb's milk comes in and there is a leak-a-rama happening so good to have breast pads on hand too...
good luck! oh and slippers. they were my life-saver! DD was in SCN (unexpected) and i had to trudge up there at all hours of the night for feeds, so comfy slippers and nightgown can work wonders to cover up milk stains etc etc...
I wore loose flannel pj pants and a white singlet with maternity bra. Have lots of black undies that are a size bigger and take your own pillow..During the day i wore trackies and singlets.
Hope everything goes well for you!
I just wore my normal pj's that unbuttoned all the way down the front. the first few nights I used the depend incontinence pad/knickers and I didn't have a single leak ( I trecommend these to everyone - they were fantastic and really comfortable). I didn't wear a bra until the 3rd night as I had no milk leaking as yet.
A friend of mine suggested I get black pj's for the hospital (just in case there are any leaks, at least you're not walking around showing them to the world). They were hard to find, but I eventually found a pair at target. good luck!
I wore PJ pants and a Bonds BF'ing singlet. My room was surprisingly cool so I had a hoodie or my dressing gown draped over my shoulders for warmth....although I got VERY hot when I BF!
A bra is a must so you can wear breast pads for leaks and black undies for the other end leaks. I only leaked blood on the bed once so i thought that was pretty good.
I usually sleep naked or undies at that time of month. So i wore the bare minimum of undies and bra in bed. I wore pj bottoms and button up top around and took off as i got into bed. But i had a private room so i could easily get away with it.
When dd was in the nusery i still wore the same to bed and the nurses used to just come in and wake me at feed times and i'd get dressed and go. Dh sleeps naked too and didnt change that fact in hosp either. Once or twice it was a bit aqward when the doc/nurse came in for morning rounds before he'd had a chance to put clothes on but generally we'd be up already.
Big nanna cotton tail undies (to accomodate massive hospital maternity pads- her's a tip, take your own), feeding bra and breast pads (I found I was leaking a bit, colostrum is sticky and I stuck to my bra and clothes without them- ouch), trackies and a button down short sleeve cotton pj tp (I preferred to be able to just unbutton what I had to, I was a bit shy about b/f'ing the first time round).
As I dont own pj at all, I wore leggins that I used to laz around the house while preg when up and about and when actually sleeping, tshirt and sleeping mat bra, so much more comfortable than normal mat bra to sleep in. Durring the day I actualy got dressed. Felt alot better to do so.
Thanks everyone! I'm due today and went to Target to buy my big black undies - I hadn't thought about that one! Weird I know to go shopping today, but bub hasn't dropped yet, so I think I'm in for a bit more of a wait - enough time to put those new undies in the wash and review what I have packed in my hospital bag. If I don't keep busy I will go nuts simply waiting!
Generally speaking, did you first-time mums prefer button up tops you could undo or just a tshirt that you could lift up for breastfeeding (during the day)?
I have an appointment with the ob tomorrow, so we'll just have to wait and see what my bub and my body are doing, because as far as I am concerned, nothing has changed...
