I dont use any herbal or anything different to hurry things along. I have looked at the RLT but theres no way im taking that amount of tabs.
You cant hurry perfection i say. Even though drs want to.
Is there anyone else out there that is not using anything at all to try and prepare their bodies for birth? By this I mean taking EPO and RLT??
I am not using any of this stuff... I don't think it would work well with my constant morning sickness, and I also figured that since this stuff was not really aruond when I was born, and people still had their babies fine then, that it wouldnt really make a difference.
I am planning on trying lots of sex (hehe), bumpy roads, spicy foods.... just the really natural stuff to try and help the occurance of labour along.
It just seems like EVERYONE is using all these 'herbal remedies'. Not that I have ANYTHING against them!
Makes me a little worried that by not using them, I am not giving my body as good a chance as those who are....
cheers

As you know I am taking RLT and EPO but I am starting to question why I am actually doing it. It seems to just be another thing that I need to spend money on....
Women give birth all the time, its part of nature. Our bodies are meant to give birth and I guess we dont really need these herbal remedies do we?!
Im kinda torn on what to do, but good on you for doing it the old fashioned way!!
I think it's just a personal choice, some women see it as 'it can't hurt', personally it's my attitude, if it means 10 minutes off labour I'm up for that.
Each body is different some women would swear by it, some women will say it didn't make a difference.
And your right, women have been having babies for a long time, our bodies are meant to do it, just some feel they would benefit from a little help, and some women see these natural remedies as being that extra help. And some women are confident with their own bodies enough to just let things happen.
Good luck.
I didn't use anything. I did try the RLT but managed about 2 sips before I chucked it down the sink!! Gross stuff!! lol. Anyway, I then just thought I'd let nature do what it had to do. I did walk but that was it!! Everything with the birth was great with no problems.
Cool!
Yeah I am in no way against using it....
I had thought about it, but left it too late.
Just wanted some nice reassuring stories where people hadnt used it and all was well
Thanks![]()
I am not going to try these. Bub will appear when its ready and I don't want to rush him/her just for my sake!
I agree. I didn't take anything the first time (well I started taking RLT at 38wks but it didn't seem to do anything), but this time, I just thought I would give it a go in the hopes that I won't go too far overdue again....If it helps, it helps, if it doesn't, it doesn't, I am not bothered and it really can't hurt me.
You are not missing out on anything nor are you doing anything wrong by not taking either!!You do what you want to do!!

Heya Nicky, I'm also not using any EPO or RLT...I asked my ob about either of these 'helpers' at my last appt, and he said he had no problem with me taking them, but he basically didn't give them a lot of merit. My bub will come when she's ready - my ob is a low intervention type of guy, so I'm not stressed that if I hit my due date, that he's going to start talking inductions.
As I get closer to term, I'll be doing things the old fashioned way like yourselfI'm sure David won't mind *lol*
Girls, RLT does not induce labour, that is why it is recommended to be taken from 27 weeks. It is used to prepare the uterus for labour, strengthening the uterine muscles allowing for more effective contractions, 'when' your body is ready to begin the birthing process. Hopefully Alan will pop in and provide some more information.
People that are taking RLT in the hope of inducing labour are wasting their time.
I took it from 27 weeks with my DD, and didn't go into labour until 39w4d, my labour was quick and lasted 6 hours.
Hi Girls
Clare is correct. RLT does not induce labour. It does help to strengthen your uterine muscles by increasing the blood supply and thus increasing the nutrients to the muscle. EPO is reputed help to start labour but this will only happen if your body is ready for labour and your baby is ready to be born. I don’t know of any studies that have proved beyond doubt that any of the above works but there are a lot of people who say that they do and as neither can harm you or your baby there is no problem in trying them. However some people think that they are a waist of money and have had no effect on their labour or birth.
Other ideas to help bring on labour such as sex also have not had any studies that defiantly prove that it works. The theory behind this is that there is a protein in semen that can cause the uterus to start contracting.
Nipple stimulation causes your body to produce a hormone associated with the start of labour. Again I don’t know of any reputable research that says that this works.
I have never worried about taking anything for any of mine and wont take it this time either. i trust that baby knows when it is time to make it's way out. I would consider the RLT for milk production though if need be afterwards.
No - not alone. I wont worry about using these either. I will be doing plenty of walking & maybe some hot curriesbut that's about it.
I actually don't see any difference in taking natural herbs and supplements or doing things like having sex, walking to help bring labour on. They are both used to help get things ready. If you are going to have sex to help soften the cervix with the sperm or take natural tablets then as I said I don't see the difference, if they are both done with the same intention. Just my opinion!
I didn't do any of the supposed remedies to bring on labour when I was pregnant with DS. The last week or so I didn't even have sex, so the spermies weren't helping nothing:P
The hospital appointment I had exactly a week before DS was born, I was told that at the next appointment induction would be discussed as it appeared DS wasn't going to be budging of his own accord any time soon.
The following week, only 2 days over his due date, along came DS, with a lovely 2 and a half hour, uneventful labour!![]()
So I won't be doing RLT or EPO either with this pregnancy. Obviously I just don't need it!
Glad I bumped into this thread! Was going to ask my OB if he forgot to tell me abt RLT and EPO!!! But then I realised that it's more of a preference thing. But I'll still ask my OB n see what he's got to say. Gotta say that I dont intent on taking in that many pills a day either!!
And the only thing I'm doing is walking too.![]()
