Post ob appointment and ultrasound 31 wks

Well, I had an ultrasound a couple of days ago to check the size of the baby, they did this because I have gestational diabities, the baby's size is now 2.2kg (about 4.8 pounds) the lady was saying this is going to be one big baby. How on earth can a baby put on another 6 pounds in 6 weeks, it doesn't seam possible, but that's what she was hinting at?
I'm on insulin and I'm hoping that might make some difference.
The ob said I would be having this baby at 38 weeks, that will be about the 24th of july, I go back to get another sizing ultrasound done in 3 weeks and they will book me in for the ceaser, then 3 weeks later I'll have this little (or maybe huge) girl.
Has anyone else had sizing ultrasounds? What was the baby's size? Do they predict right?

At the moment the baby is head down in my pelvis, with her back to my back and her feet up under my ribs, this would explain the lower back ache I've had in the last week, I'm now feeling alot of pressure down there, such a lovely spot to have a head sitting Despite all she is very healthy

I hope the next 6 weeks fly by, big belly rubs all

    Hi Rose

I had an US at 35.5 weeks and they est my bubs weight to be 3.08kg (6p 13oz), then the doctor said that she could gain another pound or so before birth. When she was born (at 39 weeks + 1 day) her weight was 3.38kg (7p 7oz) So gained 300g in the last 4 weeks or so. So going by that, the scan was probably pretty well spot on.
But I have heard of them being quite out with estimations.

    All the best

    hiya

thank you for posting this because i am going through the same thing.

i am 31 weeks tomorrow and i have gestational diabete's and i am on insulin.. at the moment i am up to 32 units before breakfast and 46 units before bed. Which to me seems alot of insulin. I am on protaphane.

they are doing a dating scan at 36 weeks which is the 20th July. when they do the tape measure i have been at 34cm since i was 28 weeks. so they are a little concerned. they seem to think this baby is going to be a big baby.

they have said that i will be induced at 38-39 weeks on a monday. so that gives these dates

    23rd July (36+5)
    30th July (37+5)
    6th August (38+5)

i am not sure what they are going to do... my due date is the 14th of August.. and i am a little confused by this all as well. i have 2 boys already DS1 8lb 1oz and DS2 10lb 60z and i never had a sizing scan with them.

oh this is a girl as well. they werent sure but i will be asking them to have a look see if they can when i have my scan.

any information you get will be helpful for me as well..

I had insulin dependent GD with my daughter, I had a scan at 33 weeks and they said she was about 6lbs. I went into labour at 36 weeks and she was born weighing 7lb3oz. Generally they put on about a 1/2 pound a week at the end so I think their 33 week guestimate of her weight would have been pretty close. They said she would be 9lb at term - she still had another month to go so again I guess they were pretty close.

I too have GD, but have been able to control it through diet and exercise. I had an u/s at 34 weeks and bubs was measuring 5 pound 3 oz. My OBS said that he would not induce me early as I was not on insulin and he is predicting bubs will be 7.5 pounds to 8 pounds when born. He did say that he will not let me go over too far, probably no more than 7 days. I did ask how accurate the scans are and he said give or take 10%.
