Question Oh Rh Neg blood type

    Hi all

Officially I shouldn't be in here yet as I'm only 25 weeks and not in my final trimester yet but have a 28 week question

My blood type is O Rh Neg so I know I will have to have the Anti D injection at 28 weeks. What's the injection like? Standard needle or big and scarey? In arm or bum or ???? Also is it one or two during the pregnancy and then potentially one after the baby is born if it has positive blood type - understand this is for future pregancies so my body doesn't produce antibodies that could effect that baby.

If anyone has had the injection could you let me know.

    Cheers

    Congrats on your pregancy!

I am A negative and had a needle last pregancy. It wasnt a big needle just standard and it was in the arm I think! Needles dont phase me so maybe it was big ?? lol!

I think I had 2 needles by memeory and then didnt need one as DS was A neg too. I am pretty sure they worked that out there and then?

Good luck Hopefuly some had a better explanation

I had the injection and it was a normal needle and I am pretty sure that it was in my arm. Hardly a worry tho... Good luck

Normal needle and doesn't hurt much at all, a little sting when they put the needle in but afterwards my arm didn;t hurt or anything. First one at 28 weeks I got in my arm, but the last one I got at 30-something weeks and she did it in my bum, well not really my bum, more the fleshy bit just below the hip area. Told her it wasn't fair, I got the first one in my arm! Apparently it's supposed to hurt less...it hurt the same going in but didn't feel it at all afterwards.

I'm an A- and I got it for my first two pregnancies. It was just an average needle and they injected it into my bum from memory! It didn't really hurt and was no big deal.

And yep, you usually get two injections during pregnancy and one afterwards if your bub is a positive blood type. Both my boys are A- too and we worked out so is DH so I don't need the injections this time. Spewing I had to have them the other times, but we weren't sure of DH's blood type back then.

Tiny needle, had mine in the arm! My DD ended up O-Negative too so didn't need the one at birth. Had one at 28 weeks and the other at 34, I think!

The needle is a normal size needle. You have the injection at about 28 and 34 weeks. They can give it to you in your arm, bum or leg. If the father of the baby is also a negative blood group then you don’t need the injection

I am a total wuss when it comes to needles, I am O Neg.

I had the shot when I was 6 weeks coz of some spotting and it wasn't so bad, ok I admit I shut my eyes pretty tight before they gave it to me coz I pass out if I see a needle, but pain wise it was fine just a little bit like a mozzie bite.
