    Yellow Hands?!?!

    Hi everyone,

Probably a silly question but just wanted to see if anyone knows anything about this?
I have just noticed that the palms of my hands seem to be tinged yellow? In particular lights it is worse, but it just kinda freaked me out. Also, my hands have been fine this whole pregnancy, but just the last week or so, they have gotten really swollen. You cant tell by looking at them, but I definately cannot get my wedding and engagement rings off any more! I am alsmost 36 weeks, and just wondered if the yellow hands thing is common at all, or if I should have a chat with the Ob on Tuesday?

    Thanks guys

How is the rest of you? Liver ok? Maybe too many carrots lol! Maybe give your ob a call and see what he thinks.

I get yellow hands. I have something called Gilbert's syndrome which it's basically harmless - my body doesn't excrete bilirubin as efficiently as most people. About 5% of the population have it and most don't know because it doesn't really cause any problems for them. I only know because I had a Dr who had it himself so he picked up that I have it.
Anyways... yellowness is usually something to do with the liver so it's worth mentioning to your carer - probably quite soon because liver problems need to be checked.

I know this may be a silly question, but have u been cutting pumpkin lately?
Sometimes my hands go yellow/orange when i cut pumpkin as the skin on my hands is quite hard and the stain stays there even after I have scrubbed them....

Definitely mention it to your care provider though - swollen hands and face that come on rapidly like that can be a sign of pre-eclampsia (or could just be totally normal pregnancy symptom - but it's worth checking!)

A friend of mine had this. She had a build up of too much carotene. She'd been drinking V8 juice for months and months every day. If you've been doing something like that then I'd cut it out for a while.
