Question about my antenatal card / obstetric record card

At today's appointment my OB was on leave so I was seen by someone else. My usual OB has not been writing anything in the 'Position' column of my antenatal card but today the other OB wrote the letter C in this column. I have no idea what this means though; can anyone shed some light? I thought that because baby's head has just started to move into the pelvis it might have something to do with that?

I'm not certain, but I think 'C' indicates a cephalic presentation - meaning baby is head down.

Ah ok. My normal OB must not have been bothering to record this (she hates the cards because she thinks it gives the hospital too much to fret about) as I've been head down for a couple of months now.

Some obs don't note the position until the last few weeks because it is likely to change. But towards the end (I'm not sure how far along you are) it is handy to know which way around they are so if you suddenly lob in hospital in labour it is good for the staff to have the information in regards to position as soon as possible. Woo hoo for head down

That sounds about right Sagre. I'm just on 37 weeks but I've known baby has been head down, spine to the left side, for a couple of months. So my OB would always tell me but not note it down. She is also good in the sense that she won't put anything down on the card that might make the hospital freak out .... Obviously if something were a concern she would but she is pretty relaxed and trusting of my body.
