Have you tried pinetarsil baths?? I used to have a bath in it or sometimes hop in the shower and get wet, then I would turn the shower off and cover myself in the pinetarsel and just stand there for a while. Also can you ask your Ob for a different cream. The first cream I was given didn't do much so I told my Ob this and she gave me a slightly stronger cream. I have just searched for it to get the name but can't find it sorry If I find it later I will let you know what it was called.
My cream is called Eleuphrat...and I'm taking Polaramine too... The itch is driving me insane...I don't know how anyone copes with this for very long it's only been about 6 days for me and I'm going insane. My blisters are huge already and I'm desperately trying not to scratch. My OBS is booking me in to see a dermatologist today so hopefully he will have some ideas!?!?
Aw, SSmiles, I'm so sorry
Hopefully the derm will be able to find you some sort of relief. You can find pinetarsal in the chemist I think? I've seen a 'wash' with it in before. Not sure if that's the same product. Aparently it really smells but can help with the itching.
I had it for eight weeks (started at 34 weeks & I gave birth just short of 42 weeks) & it was just dreadful, I was in tears just wishing for the baby to come out so I didn't have to be itchy anymore.
Pinetarsal is a wash that you can put in the bath, it's stinks but it does help a little. Just make sure your baths are only just warm, the heat will make it worse. You can also have a bath with oatmeal in it, but I didn't think that did much at all.
Other than the Polaramine, try taking Dandelion Root which you can get from the health food shop, you can get it as tea or capsules. I found that within around 36 hours the welts went down from the Danelion Root, it helped with the itchy initally but after about a week it came back, but thankfully without the welts.
I found that things worked for one or two doses then stopped working so I was rotating through a whole range of creams & lotions. I found Aloe Vera gel to work really well, I had a spray one but it didn't help. I used my steroid cream very infrequently as it didn't help & I didn't want bub affected. I had all sorts of moisturisers and they helped occassionally. Aqueas Menthol (has to be made up by the chemist) helped a bit, but not for long. Sitting with your bare belly in the sun helps as well. Just try not to use things like calamine which dry your skin & will make it worse.
Hard as it is, try not to scratch... PUPPPS starts in your stretch marks & if you scratch hard enough you will cause more stretch marks to appear & subsequently more PUPPP to appear. Tell anyone & everyone you are with to get you to stop scratching, I found I was doing it without even reaslising so needed the nudge from others to stop. Keep your hands busy while you're awake & try to stay as cool as possible.
It is so very hard, but you can get through it hun.
Just curious...did any of you with PUPPP's during pregnancy end up having a baby with a birthmark? My DD has a port wine stain birthmark and I just wondered if it may be linked?
I had a rash when pgnt with V, the Dr's wouldnt say if it was a PUPPs one or not. The rash even stayed almost 2mths after having her too. V has a birthmark on her forehead in the shape of a V, they call it a stork mark and because of the position of it they call it an Angel kiss. Not sure if it has anything to do with having the rash tho, I cant imagine it would.
