I just noticed today after my shower that I have developed a lovely rash!! The rash, at the moment, is on the right side of my belly and on the undersides of my boobs. Would the rash be PUPPP??
It is not itchy at the moment, but I am guessing that it might get itchy. Has any one got any thoughts on what I could use to stop the itchiness?? Just want to be prepared incase it does get itchy!!
Veronica, can't comment on the PUPP cause I don't know enough about it.
For the itching try Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment. You can get it from the chemist in a red tube or jar. I've been using it on my hands this week because I got dermatitis from washing my hands too much (was looking after my sick niece) and it works wonders. My hands were that itchy I was having trouble sleeping. Is also good for sore/cracked nipples when breastfeeding and for dry skin on bubs - so it won't go to waste. It's about $11 for the jar and $6 for the tube.
Just a word on the Lucas' Paw Paw cream, please know it is a petroleum based product. Its fine for us but I personally would not use it on your nipples when feeding or on a small baby. You can get an all natural one. It is in a yellow tube or pot and is called Paw Paw Salve. It has no brand as such but says it is made by Simmons & Co. I got it from an online cloth nappy store.
Hmm.. so looks like not many people know anything about PUPPP...
Well the rash is getting worse. Its not so much itching more, its just spreading and I even have it on my arms!! But that might have been aggrevated (sp?) by my aquanatal class tonight...
Best to speak to your Obgyn about the rash. I developed a rash while pregnant in third trimester, and it turned out to be an allergy to Bio Oil. My other bit of advice is DO NOT google PUPPP as some of the images are shocking, and they just scare you. Most of the time it is manageable, but of course the internet shows the more severe cases.
LOL Meg - too late!! I have already googled PUPPP and the images are really nasty!! I do know that the images on the net are worst case senario. I am going to see my doc about it today because its gotten reall itchy and spreading more.
Snacks - PUPPP means Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy. From what I have read it normally starts off in the stretchmarks on you belly and then can spread. I dont think anyone really knows what causes it just some people get it in the last weeks of pregnancy
So how long did your PUPPP stick around for girls? I have just gotten it (38 weeks preggers) and it's driving me nuts...it is soooooo itchy and looks horrible (rash & blister type bumps)...argh!!! Got some Eeluphrat cream and Polaramine tablets to take for it so I'm hoping it will go away soon?!?!
I have been doing some reading about rashes in pregnancy (I have dreadful eczema on my hands - driving me crazy!) and one thing I read about PUPPP is that it sticks around until 1-2 weeks after giving birth. Is that cream a corticosteroid? They help to control the rash's spread and the itching, then a milder cream can be used to keep it at bay and more comfy. Then it should just fade after bubs arrives.
Strange, because most people get it in their first pregnancies and not subsequent ones! I feel for you, mate. I didn't have any rashes with my first pg, but am copping it big time this time round!
At least you don't have too much longer to go
I developed PUPPP around 36 weeks weeks and had my twins at 38 weeks. I feel for you hun because I know how horrible this is. Mine started in my stretch marks and then just spread everywhere. It was so itchy and annoying. Most days I was in tears just from being so frustrated. I found pinetarsel baths helped a little (although it stinks so bad ) also I was putting all sorts of creams on and sometimes calamine as well but that can dry the skin a bit. My obgyn gave me a script for a mild steroid cream and it really got me through the last week of my pregnancy so perhaps ask for something like that.
The good news is that once the babies were delivered I can't remember feeling the itching again. My rash was still there for about 5 or so days but I couldn't feel it But as Snacks said it can last for a couple of weeks after birth.
Yep, it is corticosteroid cream...I've just put the 3rd dose on and I think some of the red rash is going down but I am geting the blisters in other parts of my body now too...argh... My OBS said it should get better though...bugger that it will stick around so long. I hope my baby comes early too!!
I've got it on my hands and I can feel it coming on my arms & legs now too... Where else does it appear?
Just curious...did any of you with PUPPP's during pregnancy end up having a baby with a birthmark? My DD has a port wine stain birthmark and I just wondered if it may be linked?
I had a rash when pgnt with V, the Dr's wouldnt say if it was a PUPPs one or not. The rash even stayed almost 2mths after having her too. V has a birthmark on her forehead in the shape of a V, they call it a stork mark and because of the position of it they call it an Angel kiss. Not sure if it has anything to do with having the rash tho, I cant imagine it would.
