Exclamation Really bad groin/inner thigh pain

Just wanting to know if the pain I have been experiencing in the groin area is normal at 32 weeks.
I haven't done anything out of the usual in the exercise department recently, but my inner groin/thigh muscles are absolutely killing me lately. It feels as though I have been riding a horse for a whole week
I'm only assuming it is just my muscles and ligaments relaxing or stretching or both. But I was just wondering if anyone is experiencing or has experienced this before, as I didn't with DD pregnancy well not that I can remember anyway, and I'm sure I would remember this pain if I had.
    Thanks.

Groin/inner thigh pain can be a symptom of Symphasis Pubis Dysfunction, where the ligaments holding the two halves of your pelvic cage together get overly stretched (due the action of the pregnancy hormone relaxin) and can cause ongoing pain.

Worth googling to understand about it, as well as for the recommendations as there are a number of things you should avoid if you have it. Worth seeing a physio too.

    hi Mummy Mel,
I hear you. I have experienced this with the last two pregnancies. Some days it's worse then others. I feel worse today as I had a slip on tiles and my legs went in opposite directions. Lucky I didnt fall completely. I try to sit or lay down if it gets to much. Some times an hot or cold pack will help, only use for short amount of time.

Thanks for your help, Marydean. It's funny, I was meant to be seeing a physio at the hospital tomorrow, but had to reschedule and their next available appointment wasn't until 3 weeks before I am due. I think I might just play it safe, google it and see what is recommend to do and avoid doing incase I am being overstretched , it does certainly feel this way. And I guess if I'm not then it can't cause any harm anyhow, right.
    Thanks again for your help.

Mel, if you want to email me (use the contact email addy and remove the nospam) I will scan and email you the info sheet the physio gave me.

HTH. Take it easy, you don't want to let this get too much worse!

I've experienced this on and off. I woke up with it this morning. I would describe it as a dull ache in the pelvic region. I assume it's either ligaments stretching, or because I'm 36 weeks, maybe the baby starting to descend. Any severe pain should be taken seriously, but if it's just an ache just make sure that you mention it to your doctor at your next appointment.

Hi there i have the exact same problem i didnt have it at all when i was preg with DS but it reared its ugly head around 20 weeks and gradually got worse and worse now it feels as though my legs are going to pop off at the hip.
It is not worse at anytime just constantly aching and pressure down real low and especially in my right groin area where it feels like a pinching feeling.
Good luck with it all..... you are not alone

    Hi there,
I too have experienced this kind of pain. A friend described it as feeling like one has been "kicked in the under carriage"!!! I thought that was a fairly accurate description really!
I am now 38 weeks pregnant and have been on elbow crutches for the past 4 weeks due to groin and hip pain and painful pubic symphysis. I've been seeing a physio who recommended the crutches and also emphasized that I need to rest lots (almost impossible with 2 other children and a DH who works long hours!!) as the less I do now the quicker the recovery after birth. I have had similiar pain with my previous two pregnancies but this is definately the most debilitated I have been.

I agree with the use of hot packs to help relieve the pain and keeping legs together as much as poss. in / out of bed and car etc. Sit down to get dressed and don't push any items along the floor using only one foot. It's frustrating not being able to do much but the end result will be wonderful!!! Have to focus on the positives.
Good luck to the rest of you soldiering on with pain. It's funny, before I became pregnant I never dreamt it could be so painful. It's especially painful when the baby moves and this seems to happen mostly in the evenings.
    Anyway, goodluck and take care.
    Kez.

Thanks for the thread as I have been suffering from this for the past two weeks. I have put it down to hormones and muscle relaxation, but I sware sometimes it is so hard to walk. The thought of DTD or even just putting on my favourite cargos is a nightmare.

I may introduce the hot packs to relive the pain. I haven't mentioned it to my dr as I just assume its one of the symptoms I forgot last pregnancy. Plus my "maybe baby girl" is lying transverse....so all my fundal height is still sitting at my belly button. I am waiting for the grand day when she turns and I get a kick under the ribs!

    Night all.
