    Is It Safe??

    Hi!

Ok, I was wondering about bathing.

I have heard that you shouldnt have your bath too hot as it may distress baby, so to have it warm. I would like to have a bath to relieve some aches and pains and to unwind to try and get a good nights sleep, BUT...i was told that it may start labour happening?? is this true?? As much as i would like labour to start lol, i feel my bubs is not ready to come yet and i dont want to have a bath if its going to start labour when he is not ready. I would like him to come in his own time.

I didnt think this was true, but would like to be sure before i go for a soak in the bath.
Hope it has made sense lol and isnt to much of a stupid question!!

    TIA

Very hot baths and a bottle of gin and putting books on your belly was supposed to induce miscarriage. Old wives tale.

I asked my GP because i'd had 2 losses and he said so long as the water wasn't so hot i was sweating it'd be absolutely fine. A warm bath actually slows down early labour (but can speed up later labour) so i wouldn't be too worried.

I had hottish baths every day in the last 3 weeks of PG as it helped to keep my BP down. DD STILL hung on in there for 11 days post EDD, so it didn't start anything for me

When I was heavily pg with Charlie it was amid a bleak and cold Adelaide winter.......I had a hot bath nearly every night to relax and to relieve the aches and pains.....adn to get cosy and warm........

I am no expert, but I think hot baths are OK?

When I had a lot of pre-labour with Lexie my OB told me that if braxton hicks stopped as a result of a hot bath, then it wasn't "true labour", which I guess implies that a hot bath can't bring on full labour?

Each to their own of course, but I say run that bath and enjoy a lovely soak..........

Hope you enjoyed the bath tears! They are my saviour when I'm feeling irritated or itchy or just need to relax. I have them at midday, late afternoon in the evenings whenever!

I dont have them hot, and the water does not really cover by belly, just my hips and I lay there and read for ages.... hmm its making me want to have one!!

It's so soothing... I'd love to have a waterbirth for one of my next bubbas!

Hot (well sufficiently warmy hot) baths are what got me thru to the end of my 42.5 wk pg last time - enjoy! It's one of those few moments where you can actually feel 100% comfortable. I used to dread getting out again, waiting for the gravity to hit...

I had been avoiding the bath but decided to ask my OB about it. She said as long as the water was not 'too hot' they are 100% fine and even if it was hot she would not worry really. She said a good test is if you can get straight in not bit by bit, then you are totally fine wrt temp. She did reiterate not to have a spa or turn on any jets in the bath (mine is a spa bath) as this can cause probs in some rare cases.
    Glad you enjoyed...
