Severe Stomach Cramps- My Sunday Night Scare

Okay, so i thought i might share with you my little scare...

Had really bad stomach cramps bout 8pm sunday night, and i tried ignoring them, and tried to sleep, but they came on stronger and stronger and in surges.....It was 9.30 and they were getting that bad, i was bent oven and in tears, I woke my fiance up, and told him i wanted to go to hospital.
He was stressing they might have been contractions, but i was pretty sure they werent, cause it was more higher in my stomach, rather than down lower in my abdomen.

By the time we got there, they were still bad, and they took me straight into delivery suite. They too were worried they might have been labour pains!! I started crapping myself!! I had nothing prepared...no bag, nothing...

They hooked me up to a fetal monitor, and said bubba seemed fine, and my urine was fine too. So they felt around my tummy to see if they could feel contractions...but nothing.
Bub was reeeeally active but...the midwife said it was very unusual. She could feel constant movement, and bub was laying right along my right side.

I was told id have to see the doc, just to be sure everything was okay. Me and my fiance had to wait like another 3 hours for him to come, as he was attending to 2 other ladies whom had come in around the same time as us. We ended up dozing off in the bed together, we were that tired lol.
The doc finally came and told me he would have to have a look up 'there'....
Ive never had this done before, and felt totally violated lol. They used that big metal clamp to open me up, it hurt lol... Then the doc said he couldnt see my cervix...and would have to do an internal to check if i was dialating....that wasnt pleasant lol...my fiance was sitting there with much horror...i think he was a little jelous of the male doc having a look and feel up my giney lol.

But all seemed fine, he said i hadnt dialated, and was prob most likely a stomach virus. Gave me pills to take, which cleared the stomach cramps up within 24 hours. They wanted to keep me in overnight, but i was meant to be leaving on a train to my parents the next morning. so i asked if i could go home...i didnt exactly wanna take up a bed in delivery suite, for just tummy aches lol

I ended up getting home bout 3am. went to bed for 2 hours, and was up at 5.30 to get a train out to my parents place...

What a scare lol. I was so scared that i was going to have bubba that night...
I was listening to the poor lady next to me, she was only 2 cms dialated, and they sent her home. Then another lady came in, and she was in so much pain with her contractions, and when they did her internal, she was only 4 cms...poor thing .

The whole night really opened my eyes to what the big day will be like. Its nothing like i expected. Listening to the poor ladies coming and going. It sorta scared me that they send you home if your not dialated enough.

But anyway, after all that, my stomach cramps have cleared up. But i was very interested in what your opinions are. I thought they may have been braxton hicks, but the nurse said they are usually more pressure feelings, rather than crippling stomach cramps like i had.

thankyou. tummy cramps have subsided. I was very worried, the fact it was coming in surges made dp and the midwife worried they were contractions. But i had a strong feeling they werent, because it was more higher up in my stomach area, than lower in the abdomen

I had the same thing last week! I got the gastro bug that's going around and with it I was getting REALLY bad stomach cramps every few minutes. I went to the hospital, as I thought the same as you - I thought the baby was coming! The doc did an internal and said I wasn't dilated at all - phew! But I was so dehydrated that the bubs heart rate was elevated so I had to stay the night there on a drip.
They ended up deciding that the cramps were uterine irritations brought on by the gastro bug. They were measuring them on the 'contraction monitor' thing, and some of the cramps were as big as the contractions I had when I was in labour with DD.
I can't believe I'm going to have to go through all that pain again in a few weeks time when bub really does come!

OMG, thanks goodness. it sounds like you had the exact sme thing as i did. It was so painful.
The midwife was trying to feel my abdomen for the contactions, but couldnt feel anything.
Must be a bad bug going round. I still have the runs and bad tummy cramps, and its 3 days later

Did they not explain what they were doing? I had that done, but I knew every step of the way what and why they were doing it..

So glad you are ok now though, and it wasn't bub making an early entrance to the world.

Better get use to this one hun, this is how they do Pap Smeat tests. I am surprised you haven't had a swab taken to during your pregnancy to check things out ....

Anyways - pretty scary thing for you to go through, glad to hear it wasn't early labour.
