    Sex how much is lots??

I know they say 'lots' of sex is good for bringing on labour ....but what exactly do they classify as 'lots'???

I also know that its better if the women orgasms as it gets the uterus contracting but yeah what would you call 'lots'... I think 2-3 times a day is lots

Had to laugh i asked a friend this and she said 'two times a week' (not exactly what i would call lots but anyway).

I would think 2-3 times a day is lots. But there have been stages in my life where 6-7 times a day was not enough..

    It depends on the situation.

But at 9 months pregnant, I would think 2-3 times a day is LOTS.

Wow....6-7 times a day - those were the days!!!

Like you said at 9 months pregnant 2-3 times a day seems LOTS ....not sure i'd physically be able to do it more then that anyway, it's getting harder and harder as each day passes.

Hehe, good question Westy - my Dr told me to go and have lots of sex this week!! I'd say once a day would be considered lots at this stage......

I also wanted to know what is the best positions? It's just so uncomfortable to move around at the moment!!

I don't know if I should admit this, but 2-3 times in a day just sounds like effort at this stage of things and not fun.. That is LOTS and LOTS in my book.. Well 2 times I day I could probably go with, but I think that would be about my limit. As long as it is still fun for both you and DH then do as much as you feel like!

GL I hope it gets things moving along for you!

When I had a midwife suggest it (I'm assuming you're talking for natural induction purposes?), I was told for it to have any significant effect you'd need to be doing the deed every hour for twelve hours.

    Now that's lots

OMG...That's amazing who at 9 months pregnant would have the energy to be DTD every hour for 12hours

I guess if this is the case sex wont be helping me much, hubby is away from home for 15-16hrs per day 6 days a week so it only leaves us one day and neither of us would have the energy for that......

    That sure is lots...hahahaha!!!

I'm with Sarah - my obs told me that to have any affect on your cervix, the amount of semen required is some ridiculous amount that is really difficult to obtain naturally through just DTD!

But hey - we did it anway

Please don't be thinking I did the once every hour thing!!!!! Gosh no!

We managed it maybe 5 nights out of 7 for the last week or two - DH was in heaven

And please don't be thinking it was because I had a massive libido - it was more of a "well this is nice and hey it can't be hurting the cervix so lets give it a go!" type of thing!

Don't forget the other benefit is the production of oxytocin - the natural "love drug" that is produced in massive amounts during labour and shortly after giving birth. Syntocinin (sp?) is the synthetic version of oxytocin, which is what that they give you to induce you!

So even just being nekkid next to your DP, getting cosy and feeling nice and "loved up" can help stimulate labour, who knows how much, but my feeling was that every little bit helps!!!!

at antenatal classes, our midwives told us that you would need it to be at least six times a week to make any difference.

I've been told there is no point unless your cervix has already started to soften, as the hormones & chemicals released help to speed up labour by further softening the cervix not start labour.

Might be some merit in being on top in an upright position to bring on labour, or on all fours any position that is good for envouraging bubs to move down.

Frankly right now (my due date was 27th) I couldn't be.... well you know

OH my Gosh that just all sounds too hard, i thought maybe if we did it once or twice in the week it might be enough to get things started, its not that I'm not interested??? Its just so uncomfortable!!! And then the baby kicks and squirms for ages afterwards, not like normal when you drift off into that really lovely sleep feeling safe and secure..

OMG I hope I don't need to start thinking of ways to help labour start... I actually can't think of anything worse just at the moment... what with the heartburn and lack of sleep and having no energy and feeling like a massive beached whale...lol looks like DH will just have to be one of the unlucky ones hehe
