Ok so when they say sex can bring on labour, do they mean orgasm ? penetration ? the male orgasm ?

I think it's the semen that helps to ripen the cervix. I'm sure one of the girls in my Belly Buddies group said her OB told her that in order for sex to get labour going you need to have LOTS of it

All the best with that Personally, I just couldn't handle sex right at the end of pregnancy and found a quick stretch and sweep around my due date worked wonders!

I think it has something to do with the sperm - it has a hormone called prostoglandins in it, and I think it helps soften the cervix - its similar to whats in the gels they can use to induce...of course, with baby brain on board, I could be completly wrong

The little swimmers help soften the cervix and orgasm can help the uterus start contracting

I think sex during the first stage is the best for getting things moving

I think though too that for sex to bring on labour, the cervix has to be ripe or close to being ready to go anyway IYKWIM.

:yeahthat: I was just about to say that! Sex may help if the cervix is ready. I must say it didn't work for me the first time, but I just mustn't have been ready

One of the midwives at my hospital recommends that you have sex every day to get the 'induction effect'.

Last time I just laughed. But now that I'm trying for a vbac and need labour to start spontaneously.... I'm ready to try anything!

Oh I know that "they" say it is supposed to bring it on but seriously who are "they?"

My oh so obliging DH is like a dog on heat at the moment waiting for me to say "oh hurry up lets go" but I have news for him and its all bad.

I may have to steal the remote batteries and go run me that bath!!

Oh i miss sex!!! I know missionary was always considered boring but I would give anything for good old fashioned missionary!!!!!

Also, i have heard that the ingestion of prostoglandins worked better than DTD, has anyone else heard this rumour or is my husband trying to pull a fast one? LOL

Not that i would mind, that is kinda working for me right now anyway.
